Heading out to the garage, BRB ... Just removed the chuck and put it back on, the chuck screws onto the spindle, no screw. To remove the chuck: tighten the chuck onto the short end of a 3/8" or 1/2" Allen wrench, there is a location just aft of the chuck for a thin spanner wrench but just smacking the Allen wrench with a rawhide or rubber mallet counterclockwise will also do the job. Remember, the threads are left handed. So, it could be the assembly of the chuck onto the shaft and may have been cross threaded at the factory. -OR- the spindle itself is the issue??? For an occasional use they will probably be fine depending on how long you make cuts. The bottom line is the 1.5ah batteries charge in 15 minutes and if you already have two they will get you by for a job that does not demand a lot of cutting. Admittedly I did buy the 3.0ah battery just to be on the safe side. The 1.5ah batteries run the saw just fine and I have not made enough cuts to take one down to a point of recharge. I use the saw for the quick uses where I am too lazy to drag out the extension cord and my plug in Makita circular saw. Read Less

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Makita 16 volt drill Light weight and strong. Love the headlight that stays on for 10 seconds after drilling so you can see your work. Also love the side clip so you can hang it off your pocket if you need two hands. Very handy feature. No more dropping drill motors if your on a ladder. Only dislikes is using short bits your work is just inside the shadow of the headlight and there is no storage clip for extra driver bits. Still very happy with this tool. June 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Makita Combo set Makita drills have been my favorite since I bought my first one 30 years ago. This new set does not disappoint, light weight, torque to spare, comfortable grip, battery run time is outstanding. Was a little leery about it being compact size but size does not matter in this case. The smaller size has let it do jobs that may have been to tight for a traditional full size drill. In the start process of a whole house rehab, used it everyday, literally, has not failed to do anything I ask of it. By the way, this was a fathers day gift from my adult daughter, Michelle, thanks again. June 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best gift ever. Bought set 5 years ago for my husband. He loved them so much I just bought him another set. Now he doesn't have to stop and change bits in the middle of a project. July 8, 2014

It is the value version of makita, So if you need it for home use then It would be worth it.. On the other hand if you are a perfesional or heavy use in construction, then go with a more expesive makita set.. March 5, 2013
