Questions & Answers

Why I can find left side blade?

I like this one but it's hard to use with the right blade
Asked by: Evers18
Not on this model. It was designed to look and perform similar to electric 7 1/4" circular saws which almost exclusively have blades on the right. Makita is launching a rear handled X2 brushless circular saw this spring. It's designed to compete with "worm drive" electric circ saws and will have a blade on the left. Best of both worlds. You can get details on Makita's website.

Compatible batteries

Is this saw compatible with two 2Ah batteries (1820)?
Asked by: Sindre
You need any Makita LXT battery with a star logo on the top. Pretty much any one 2.0 AH or larger, with the only exception being older 3.0 AH. They will work, but won't be able to put out full power or run time, as they lack the proper electronics to communicate with the tool. Bottom line, look for the star on the battery!

blade position

On this model, the blade is positioned on the right side. On Makita's 6 1/2 " model, it's positioned on the left side. Why the difference ?
Asked by: Steve
It's a standard 7 1/4" circular saw, so the blade is on the right, like most electric saws. It's a matter of international preference. A few brands, including Makita, have sold left-blade 7 1/4" saws, with poor sales results. People say they want a left-blade saw, but rarely buy them when they're available. Makes no sense, but manufacturers will make what people will buy in the long run

Does it come with a case? Have a built in light?
Asked by: SRG
Thank you for your question. The XSH01Z 18V X2 LXT® Lithium-Ion (36V) Cordless 7-1/4” Circular Saw, Tool Only does not include a case, and is not equipped with an LED light. Please see the XSH01X for a kit which includes a tool bag.

18-Volt X2 LXT Lithium-Ion (36-Volt) Cordless 7-1/4 in. Circular Saw (Tool Only) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great saw with the power to compete with corded saws.... Great saw with the power to compete with corded saws. It is heavy with the two batteries attached. Also, the blade that is included is extremely thin - probably to enhance battery life since the kerf is smaller. However, if you are not dead on the cut with the saw the blade will bind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power, performance and portability encapsulated in a single tool This isn’t my first cordless saw but first ever that takes two 18v batteries to run. This saw truly delivers power, performance and portability encapsulated in a single tool. I am absolutely amazed with its capability. I have always experienced power trade off with cordless tools but this tool is a whole different story, zero power loss what so ever. Putting together a wooden ramp and a shed base, this saw cut tons of 2X4s and 2X6s on a single charge. In fact, batteries still had some juice left when I was done. Beveled or straight, it was right on the dot and gave me perfect cuts. For longer cuts, I found on board clamping screw extremely helpful while using it with rip fence. The mechanism to insert the guide is very simple. My other saws never had electric brake so I didn’t even know what a cool feature that it. Its electric brake stops the blade in half a second and I find it very convenient during quick stops and starts. It looks very stylish, and with two batteries installed it does not feel heavy on the arms. Talking about safety, the trigger lock, electric brake, overload and overheat protection features certainly adds peace of mind for me. Be mindful that battery overheat protection will work only with the batteries that have a Star sign in the back. Tiny slot to store hex key is handy and now I never have to look for the key to replace the blade. The charger I use for the batteries charges within 30 minutes but since you will charge one battery at a time, your total charge time will be 1 hour apx. These Makita 18v batteries are compatible with all other 18v Makita tools; it’s an investment worth every penny that allows me to buy just bare tools. I carry the saw, batteries and charger in Makita's contractor bag. The bag looks cool and offers ample storage for everything. All in all, this is the best cordless saw I have ever owned. Highly recommended for DIYers and professionals of all trades.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beyond Impressed I was a little skeptical when I first heard about this saw. A Home Depot rep was saying it was incredible after seeing it at a training. Claimed it cut like an electric Makita. Being a Makita user, I was willing to give it a try, because dragging a power cord around is a pain when I'm all over the job site. When I got it home and tested it out, I was BLOWN AWAY! It does cut closer to the speed and power of an electric than any other cordless saw I've ever seen or used. Plus, it uses the same 18V batteries I've been using for years. Another subcontractor on a job was raving about their new 18V brushless 7 1/4" saw and how great it was and how fast it cut, blah blah blah. After hearing him go on and on for a day, I showed him this.Cuts faster, bogs down less, and gets WAYYYY more cuts per charge (plus charges in half the time-per battery). Since he tried this one out, he hasn't said a word- especially when he found out it was LESS money than his (the red one) The only disadvantage is that it weighs a little more--but still less than my electric sidewinder. Another thing that blew me away was Makita's claims of 250 cuts per charge (in a 2x4). I was skeptical of this, too. We were done a little early on a Friday and had a bunch of scrap wood laying around (and time to kill), so I charged up some 3.0 AH batteries to put the claim to the test. I gave up after 290 cuts, and the saw was still going. This was non-stop cutting too, so I imagine it could have been even better with real-world use making a few cuts, then cooling down. Plus, now Makita has 4.0 and 5.0 AH batteries. I can't imagine how many cuts they would do. I've never been let down by my Makita tools and batteries. Take care of them, and they'll give you years of trouble-free use. This saw continues my experience of being blown away by what Makita can do. Kep your yellow, red, and orange tools. I'll keep Makita and spend my time on the job, not in the tool repair shop!-

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool. The saw uses 2 - 18v batteries so it is a little heavier than the construction grade cordless I had stolen but a little lighter than the worm drive plug in saw I have. The motor will cut through studs, plywood and white-wood, bogs just a bit when it encounters a knot. I have not yet used it on a long enough job to run the batteries down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cordless powerhouse Cuts like a corded saw! In reality, not as much power as a corded, but for most purposes, this saw powers through work with cordless convenience. Very good build quality!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I hoped it would be I'm a commercial finish carpenter and I'm pretty demanding on a circular saw. I was worried that a cordless saw wouldn't have the power to cut the materials I need. I saw the dual battery system and decided to give it a try and it delivered. This saw has done everything I have wanted it to do and done it well . If your looking for a saw that is portable and has the power to get the job done I highly recommend the Makita 36 volt 7/14 cordless circular saw.
