You could. If you take the adapter off the bag, and connect it to a 2 1/4" hose. But you would'nt have has much freedom using the sander.

I went ahead and bought this sander. The bag adapter fits a full size shop vac hose ( aprox. 2 1/4 ") very well. Just used some duct tape to keep it on during use. The vacuum pulls most all dust out during sanding.

Answer:
Hrh,
The OD of the output tube on the sander is 7/8". So you would need some type of step down adapter for your shop vac in order to connect it to the sander.

Answer:
I would not recommend using any sander on sheetrock! You can use a putty knife and scrape off what you need to remove! The dust would be a major problem for both you and the sander.

To much power for sheetrock try one with variable speeds. It will create alot of dust. Be sure to wear a dust mask, and googles.

Answer:
Natalie,
If you're using it to sand repairs or joints in sheet rock, this might be more than you need. If you do use an orbital sander on drywall, be sure to use a fine grit sandpaper to prevent unintentional damage to the surface of the drywall.

Answer:
It stays in place if you make sure it's right from the get-go. I have never had to take the paper out to reset it. Obviously with aggressive sanding the paper will wear through a little faster and you have to replace it. But I have never really had to tighten the paper. I think this is because of the metal bars that hold the paper in place. Plastic or rubber "bars" tend to loosen up.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 50 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice This is my 4th palm sander in 20 yrs. I've owned a Porter Cable and 2 Dewalts. Compared to my other sanders (death due to motor PC and 1 Dewalt, broken plastic catch for holding sandpaper securing arm...still using w bungee) the motor is quieter and smoother sounding. Good feel in the hand, secure and easy to slide over project. Very happy w sanded results, so far I'd rate it higher than my previous sanders. Only small caveat, securing 1/4 sheet of sandpaper isn't 2 second piece of cake, I think the length of the pad is just slightly longer, so you can't back one end of the sheet in place, clamp and expect you'll have enough material to clamp other end. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great All-around Sander!! I purchased this sander almost a month ago and am very satisfied so far. I have used it several times for various projects and have been very impressed with its quality and how good it feels in your hand. Sandpaper is simple to install and holds securely in place. The dust collector seems to work better than with other sanders I've used. This is certainly the quietest sander I've ever used. The Makita brand is top notch, in my opinion and never fails to impress. The only negative comment I can say is that this sander, when bought in-store, does not come with a carry case as does the one that can be purchased online. This was quite a disappointment when I saw the case included only after I had used mine a number of times. However, this is not a strike against the quality of the sander itself. July 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great sander works great, less noise than most very happy with it April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasure to work with I managed to break 3 different sanders when I started my kitchen renovation. I used the Home Depot app on my way to the store to check the reviews. All decent palm sanders were $50, so price wasn't an issue. Based on reviews, Milwaukee was my top choice but wasn't available in store. DeWalt and Makita were my only options. Ridgid's reviews scored to low, I refused to consider it. DeWalt would of been my natural choice but Makita's reviews were higher. I examined both sanders in the store, Makita was much easier to load. The machine runs smooth and feels stout. I enjoy using this sander and will not hesitate to purchase another one. March 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Another awesome Makita product I've had very excellent experiences with Makita power tools and this sander is no exception. This unit feels very well designed. Dust collection works outstandingly well - I sanded some sticking doors in place (too many layers of paint) and was surprised how much was picked up in the bag, and how little I had to clean up afterwards. Outstanding value for half a Benjamin! March 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by light weight, low noise, low vibration I bought this sander to replace the older Makita model that I had used for over 15 years. I can purchase parts to repair the older model, but I needed another one right away to finish projects I was working on. I decided since the Makita had been such a great product that I would stay with the Makita brand and buy the new model. The paper holders on the new model were redesigned, which was a concern for me but they seem to hold the paper just fine and I've already put it through the test. I recommend this product to anyone who needs a 1/4 sheet sander. This is a very reliable brand. June 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product at great price! I was getting tired of sanding cabinet boxes by hand during a recent kitchen renovation, so I opted for the palm sander approach instead. I tested multiple sanders and this one felt the best in my hand so I went with it in the end. Could not be happier with the tool. Handles well, makes small sanding adjustments a breeze, and is easy on the body regardless of the amount of time of use. Combine all of that with the price point and this is one of my favorite purchases in quite a while. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Light weight Low vibration, Comfortable. I purchased this Makita Sander to replace it's older brother. Although I can order parts to repair it, I needed one right away to finish projects I had started on. This sander performs just as well if not better than the older model. Light weight, Low vibration and very comfortable to use. My only concern was the redesign of the paper holders. The older model has aligator teeth. This one has bars, but they seem to hold the paper just fine, and I've given it the workout. If you are in the market to purchase a finishing sander, I would recomend you buy this sander.
