Answer:
Grasp the drill, put the drill in the reverse mode, and activate the drill - it will retract the device and release the bit - you may have to try a couple of times, as it is designed to hold, but this does work.

To release the drill bit, simply push the change lever into reverse, and then pull the outer sleeve of the keyless impact chuck towards your body to prevent it from spinning as you pull the trigger on the impact driver. This should cause the drill bit lodged into the teeth of the keyless impact chuck to come loose.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by useless brand new out the packaging drilld 2 holes didn't hold the bit in place it fell off.n locked afther 1 and a half drills. October 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Time Saver I'm an HVAC installer, this allows me to use spot bits, step bits, and non impact ready paddle bits without searching for my drill. If your primary fastener like me is an impact driver, this is a must have. Only thing it doesn't help with is hole saws. The only arbors that fit are small and are beat to pieces by an impact. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by adapter unscrewed I'm a sheet metal worker. i use these with my impact so i don't have to carry a drill and impact all day. i used mine about a week. like others have complained, the adapter unscrewed from the chuck when i tried to remove a bit. due to some internal ratcheting mechanism it's nearly impossible to remove the bit by gripping the chuck with two sets of pliers. i can't belive they don't use a reverse thread screw to keep the adapter from backing out. i exchanged it, hopefully I'll have better luck with the new one. i had one made by jacobs that lasted about 15 years. so far i haven't found a suitable replacement. i tried two from the "green" home improvement store, $5.99 and $14.99 and both of those broke the very first hole i drilled. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk, worthless, never again I bought this as an alternative to buying a drill in order the save fifty of sixty dollars Wasting two hours with it before caving in and returning it, something would go wrong every thirty seconds and I would have to completely reassemble everything The chuck loses its bite seconds into drilling, have to retighten it or pick it up and put it back in if it's already fallen out It's also worth mentioning I was doing incredibly light-grade work with black oxide bits and nothing heavy duty.. couldn't imagine a carpenter or a tradesman using this.. Not sure if I just got a defected one but I wouldn't recommend this product to ANYBODY August 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Adapter! This adapter allows me to use long standard drill bits for my powerful impact drill. I can drill into hard thick wood with considerable ease where I couldn't do it with my standard drill. Thank you, Makita! Only one sales person, Jeremy, at Home Depot knew exactly what I wanted. October 4, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Piece of garbage I dont understand how people give this more than 1 star if it only worked once for them. This thing is trash, im on my third exchange, this time I am going to just get my money back. True Garbage. Just get a normal drill. July 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Makita chuck adapter Excellent product works on most of my old drill bits. February 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It works great I use them from time to time. They work best with the Milwaukee bits that can take the impact of the driver. They are awesome for tearing through studs in the wall. January 20, 2016
