Answer:
Yes if you get the right blade for it. I suggest watching a few videos on how to use it by Jon Eakes. http://www.joneakes.com/learning-curve/74-oscillating-tools.
Pretty helpful vids on how to use these tools.

Answer:
I reckon so. This tool is set up to cut straight lines really well. Blade selection would be the factor. YouTube no doubt has videos about it.

Most likely ... I'm not sure exactly what you're intending to do, do you have a picture you could upload? ... can't get a picture in my mind. But, if you need to make a 'plunge cut' in trim already installed that doesn't line up with the sheetrock, or if you need to trim the sheetrock to fit trim, either should work fine. Just make sure, if you haven't used one of these before, to make several practice cuts on waste material to get the feel. You are depending on your grip and steady hand for accuracy and smoothness of cut. I've used these for lining up existing baseboard with new door molding without having to remove the baseboard. Guard the carpet, mark a line on the existing baseboard where the new door molding will fit, cut on the line. As long as you have a sharp relatively new blade, it is a smooth cut.
Good luck, hope this helps. Read Less

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 20 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Mikata Multitool Was just what I needed. Working on remodeling kitchen and was able to do many of the jobs needed. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Multi tool This tool is a must for anyone who wants to make any job easier. June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super Straight Cuts! My favorite thing about this tool is how easy it is to make straight cuts. I bought this for a dishwasher installation where I had to cut out a cabinet. I was afraid a reciprocating saw would be too rough on the cabinet, leaving splintered edges, but the Makita Multi-tool buzzed through the wood and any nails I found along the way without any problems (using a Dremel carbide blade). Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick release is one of the best features. Great tool!!! Very reliable, easy to use. I don't know how I ever did my job without one before. April 20, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent tool! I recently used this tool to cut some sheetrock out of the ceiling to install a new bathroom fan. It fits in tighter places than a jig saw does. I even used it to cut some roof shingles to install my bathroom vent. It is a little on the large size. But so far that has been okay. I'm glad I made the purchase! December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Save your arms, ears and teeth I've used a variety of these and how they get this Makita to run without vibrating your fingernails off like others do is incredible. It's smooth with very little vibration allowing you to concentrate on your cut and not trying to control a thrashing saw blade. It's a lot quieter than any other oscillating saw I've used too. Really a nice tool and takes the pain out of oscillating saws. September 1, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job but at a cost. This tool has saved my bacon already due to an mistake I made. The only down side thus far is the blades get dull much sooner than any other tool I've used over 45+ years. Used the blades on what they are designed for and they still get dull fast. A great tool for emergency use otherwise buy extra blades, you'll need them. August 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Tool! First multitool I've owned & very satisfied with my purchased! Love Makita tools due to their quality and power. Cut through a 2x4 with ease and was a much cleaner & precise cut than using my reciprocating saw. If you don't have this tool in your arsenal I would recommend it due to the wide variety is uses.
