Hello d. I’m Newf from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question.
Yes, with the proper bit for the type of screw you want to drive/remove, this drill will work just fine for you. Just keep in mind that the trigger switch is variable speed. For screws you will want to use a slow speed. For drilling you will want a faster speed.

Chuck repair Makaita 6408 keyless

This question is from 4.9 Amp 3/8 in. Drill with Keyless Chuck

While drilling a rag got stuck between the drill and the bottom of the chuck. Before I stop the drill it sucked the chuck all the way down in the open position. The chuck now doesn't open or close. I can move the two turning parts of the chuck but it doesn't change the size adjustment. Any thoughts on what might have happened and can it be repaired before I consider buying a new chuck...It sounds like they are difficult to replace.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not good for "varible speed" work I needed a 3/8s drill to replace my 25+ year old B&D that finally gave up. I bought this drill, and have had it for a year working on decks & other home projects. Controlling the speed is difficult. Good for drilling holes at high speed. Difficulty getting the chuck to hold the drill bit during repetitive drilling. I would replace this drill in a minute, with one that has better Variable Speed control (like my old B&D drill).
