Solid feeling drill, performs well, and the builit-in light is really handy. The old-style chuck key is kind of a pain but workable. Large lever handle can be awkward when you pick up the tool - gotta remember not to squeeze too tight if it is plugged in. Would probably buy this drill again if I had it to do over.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Greg Good Drill W/ Occassional frustrations
Excellent close quarters drill with a few frustrations - The variable speed switch has too short of a stroke on it making it hard to drive screws because when a little more power is attempted for that last turn to drive the screw home the drill tends to over speed and over drive the screw past flush - Also, it would be nice to have more of the chuck exposed to aid in installing a drill bit - Chuck key is small and hard to use and not what you would expect on a high end drill - Otherwise a great little drill with a solid feel and quality movement - Makita could stand to do a little more engineering on this to make the best close quarters drill available - My suggestions above would require minimal investment / price change

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Terry A true angle drill!
I have owned this drill for many years and love the tight gear configuration. Smallest head of any other brand and high quality gear driven system allows closer spaced working areas for drilling through joists, studs or gutters with lots of power, control and even has an l.e.d. light. A few years ago I neglected to oil the chuck and jammed the tines so I went on line and bought a new chuck. I couldn't find a repair shop so it sat for four years in the garage until I finally figured out how this thing was put together after viewing an on line schematic. It was not that difficult so I sat down and got it done. So happy I got er back in operation to help with my Handyman business. I highly recommend this angle drill, you will wonder how you got by without it once you put it to use!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GaryP Shortest right angle head I've seen
What's the most important feature of a right angle drill? I'd say minimum thickness or length of the right angle head/chuck assembly, to enter narrow spaces. This is achieved with an "old fashioned" key type chuck, which I'll gladly live with. I have no problem with the AC corded motor, either. Typical above-average Makita quality. Pricy for something I won't use often, but priceless when I need to.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by seagull369 Pricey but very low profile
This drill has a lower profile than even your typical pneumatic angle drill, which are compact as it is. Unit produces good torque, enough so that you may want to pick up a side handle to use with it (drill has provisions for one). LED light is a nice touch. Biggest downside is the cost. It's a bit excessive, for what you get.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Verified Reviewer Indispensible Tool
This drill initially was purchased for 1 task which made me hope I it would get more use. And it has. Repeatedly fits into other areas where a standard drill will not. Areas like between joists when sistering wood and trying to drill screws (drill length plus screw length) this is great. It is powerful, variable speed is extremely useful and the built-in light is also another great feature. I always know I can tackle a job with this tool.

Handled all job obstacles without incident. good overall performance. Best tool for getting to tight places where a larger drill would not fit.
