Answer:
Probably could. This saw has a wheel support behind the blade for added stability, so the blade doesn't shift backwards or bend at an angle and would probably support a larger blade, but to be safe I'd check with the mfg as to it's limits.

There are several blades available for cutting wood greater than 2 in. thick. The 792529-7, 4-1/8" 9 teeth per inch, tang shank blade is designed to cut wood up to 2-9/16" thick. The 792430-6, 4-1/8" 8 teeth per inch, tang shank blade is designed to cut wood and plastic up to 2-9/16" thick. Our 792730-4, 7-1/8" 6 teeth per inch, tang shank blade has our largest cutting capacity at 5-1/4".

Answer:
Raider, yes you could, but remember that the greater the size the wood you cut the slower you need to travel. Trying to cut at a quicker speed will cause the blade to be heated more due to the increased friction, and may increase the possibility of blade breakage. I would use a high quality blade and move the saw at a little slower speed as not to over heat the blade.

Hello raider,
With a longer blade cutting something that thick is certainly possible. However once you get to wood that thick, you are usually going to encounter an increase in density. So as not to over burden the saw make sure you are letting it cut through the material at a reasonable pace without forcing it through the material. It comes with 1 wood blade that I replaced after the first day of use. I bought the 10 pcs, T-Shank, Bosch wood blade variety pack, which is also a blade case, for $15 & they work GREAT! Much better quality than the blade the saw comes with.

More Amps-No Light-Less Money

Makita model #JV0600K costing at Home Depot $119.00 has 6.5 amps and NO LIGHT!
Makita model #4350FCT costing at Home Depot $169.99 has 6.3 amps, a LIGHT and costing $50.99 more! This makes no sense to me. If you have a tool with .2 amps more (I realize it is not that much more in amps) on model #JV0600K shouldn't the extra .2 amps be on model #4350FCT that also has a LIGHT and costs $50.99 more?

So - you are charging an extra $50.99 for a tiny light and .2 AMPS LESS? Again, to me in my opinion, this does not justify paying an extra $50.99 in this constantly declining, unstable economy.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it! I love Makita's stuff. it's a little pricier, but so what. Cry once, and have the right tool forever. I wanted a powerful, versatile, corded jig saw, and this one eats 2x2's. June 7, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent jigsaw As always great quality from Makita. Powerful, smooth and comfortable. Blade changing is ingenious and so simple. Various oscillator setting for different applications (degree of elliptical motion of the blade from 0 - 3) March 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Smoothest saw ever! I have to confess 1st, I'm a huge Makita fan. I have used jig saws from other companies, but this is by far the best. It's smooth, variable speed works great, there is very little vibration (probably due to the weight of the product). Even though I used rough blades the cut is clean due to the high speed. I love it! January 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Cuts like butter through 2" boards and easy to control , best saw ever purchased! January 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Well made, easy to use tool. Ordered on line to pick up in store. Was in stock at store, so pick up was shortly after. I had a cheaper brand that had a laser beam that shined on the cutting line, but it was stolen. although this saw has no laser, it has more power and feels more comfortable. I feel I've got more control with this tool. I'm glad I bought it. December 22, 2015
