Customer Questions & Answers

What is important to know when buying a grinder with 5/8 arbor size vs 1 arbor size?

Asked by: Cs
Based upon Makita Team's answer - the specs for the arbor size of 1" must be wrong since they say that all Makita grinders have a 5/8 arbor. Home Depot please update the specs.

which makita grinding wheels come extra with the grinder?

it says and shows the grinder with the extra grinding wheels but there are a few different makita styles so what is the makita number of these particular wheels? also, are they the better ones, or just something to make the deal seem better?
Asked by: captainmalibu
It comes with five #A-95956 4-1/2 inch grinding wheel and one #194571-8 4-1/2 inch diamond wheel. I don't know what constitutes "the better ones" so I can't answer that portion of your question. They seem well-made to me, but I'm no expert.

Once to cut down and then cut up an old steel square-section basketball backboard post and also to sharpen a couple of lawn mower blades. I have been very satisfied with the way this product has performed.

Coming from Makita, I expected it would would be high quality, and it doesn't disappoint. The one thing I wished it had was a third position for the handle, on the top. My previous Milwaukee grinder had that, and I did use it. The price with the case and wheels is a great value Too bad it's online only, but ground shipping was pretty quick.

Good Value for a Very Nice Grinder Kit To be honest, I haven't yet actually used this grinder. I bought it during a major bathroom remodeling job after watching many videos on YouTube about how to cut and install ceramic tiles. Several of the professional tile installers used this same model grinder to cut holes in the tile for shower plumbing. Since I had only round holes to drill for my remodelig job, I used diamond-coated hole saws to drill the holes I needed. There were many cheaper grinders to choose from, but this Makita seemed to represent a good value for the money in that it includes a very nice aluminum case and and assortment of grinding wheels as well as a diamond blade. I have a couple air-powered die grinders that I've tried to use for various projects, but they always seemed rather awkward and uncontrollable. I decided an electric frinder like this would make a better addition to my tool set.

Grinder is powerful--I used it with a diamond grinding wheel to grind cement and it didn't bog down at all. This kit is a great value buy considering all that is included. The case is especially nice with foam padding to hold everything in place.

Bought this Grinder because I work with metal a lot and always borrowing from somebody else. Used it the day it was delivered to cut away bolt studs with stripped heads that were basically rusted on. Had to buy thinner blade because the ones it came with are like 3/8 thickness which makes it tougher to cut through metal. Was impressed with performance and the carrying case that the grinder came with. There is one thing that I should mention, when using a grinder make sure you have safety glasses when cutting metal it throws burrs and you want to definitely protect your eye's...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple and easy Bought this to make a few cuts. This tool is very user friendly. My only complaint is that the trigger doesn't stay on if you let it go. Unlike my last Makita grinder which had a switch. Other than that, it's an amazing tool.

The first grinder came in a case that was damaged. When the second grinder arrived, I decided to use the diamond wheel. The wheel kept chucking and the blade stopping. When I went to remove the diamond wheel, the lock nut would not come off although I managed to seriously bang up my finger in the process. Both grinders were returned and I will be looking for a different brand.
