Is this grinder application for cutting granite with the right turbo diamond cutting?

Asked by: Jake
It depends on the granite. If you're talking about large rocks, like what might be used to line a garden bed, then this is the "fine tune tool". (Use a rotary hammer with a chisel bit for the macro part of things, like this one: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Makita-8-Amp-1-in-AVT-SDS-Plus-Rotary-Hammer-HR2641/206040966). While this grinder will probably work on large granite, it's geared more toward flooring/bathroom tiles and other smaller things. I would think you could fairly easily destroy the blades by trying to go through something too thick. Aluminum poles, exhaust pipes, etc. (things that are rather thin) are perfect if you're trying to actually cut them with this. Granite? For finer work than a chisel will do, yes. For the entire job, no. You can use a manual chisel for the macro part as well (cutting off the big chunks) as that will save money. It'll just take longer.

Can a wire wheel fit this grinder to buff paint off wrought iron

Asked by: Bob
It can if it's the right size. You'd probably want to check in store with the wire wheel you're considering. But, so long as it fits, there's not a good reason it wouldn't work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best grinder I've ever owned!!! This grinder holds up and perfoms well. I use it for steel siding, valley tin, ceramic tile, cement board, patio brick, ect. ect... And there was a blade for every use in the kit to start out.I like the paddle switch as well over the switch on the side. As a remodeling contractor, I sometimes use it daily and have went through several in the last 15 years. This one is 2 yrs old now and still performs like the day I bought it. I blow the dust out of mine with the compressor at the end of the day when I cut cement board, or other dusty material to prevent over heating. When this one breaks or calls it quits, I will defenitley buy another one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Bought this to widen the hole in our granite countertop for a replacement top mount sink. Even though the new sink was the same width and height of the one I was replacing it would not fit in the existing hole due to the bowl shape. I've never used a grinder before and I've never attempted any task like this, but this tool made it relatively straightforward to cut the countertop and successfully install the new sink. The tool is easy to assemble and looks well built. I bought a Makita after extensive research online. This tool seems really versatile and I plan to use it to cut tile instead of buying a tile saw for some upcoming kitchen and bathroom tiling projects.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Okay for occasional light-duty use I've owned mine for about two years now, and have just killed it for the second time. It's a great size, has great ergonomics, and feels like a high-quality tool... But if you run it for more than 20 minutes straight, it'll overheat and destroy the brushes and armature. Fortunately, parts and repairs are cheap (~$25 for brushes and armature)... I'd just rather not have to deal with fixing it. Not recommended for professionals, flooring projects, or really any continuous-duty use.
