Makita belt sander model 9404 does not include a carrying case. We recommend the 21" Makita tool bag (821016-X).

Answer:
I don't believe clamping in a vise without some very soft padding would be a good idea. It may crack the housing or squeeze something internal that would damage the unit.

Answer:
Yes. But it is very heavy and long; you would want multiple serious clamps to hold it still, level and in place.. Otherwise, you will get irregular surface results.

Hi Charlie, this sander is only intended to be used by holding it with both hands. This sander is not designed to be used in a vise or as a stationary tool. Check out a Ryobi belt/disc sander, model number BD4601 Home Depot number 100067979, Store SKU 281-657. This is an affordable tool that is a great little stationary sander.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by OK for the money Good product, I could use a little more power and sanding speed although it was able to handle everything for my sanding needs. Auto tracking works well, didn't need adjustable speed for which I had it on maximum. It gets a little warm and doesn't move the material as fast relative my old all metal construction 4x24 commercial duty belt sander. The old stuff was built like a battle ship. Problem was it had a high spot rather than sanding evenly across the flat bottom of the shoe plate. I think it was the problem with the cork pad. Well see if Makita has a fix or replace the cork pad. Being right handed I had no problem with the dust bag located on the left side as noted by others. Having the ability to sand right the edge of a wall was a nice feature. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super ! I refinished a large dining room table that sits 8 which was in a fire that burnt the middle of the table but needed a belt sander started off with 40 grit then finished of with a 120 grit. Machine had plenty of power. Easy to load and adjusts I had very little dust as the key is to check and empty the bag as it can fill rather quickly depending on grit used and time The machine is weii built and I kepted cord on my shoulder so it would not get caught up in machine.Worth the money April 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works like I hoped it would. The belt sander is really fast and efficient. Wood removal was a breeze and the dust collector really works to keep me breathing clean air. December 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good belt sander for the money. I have had Makita power tools in the past and was always satified with them.(ie. table saw. chop saw. circular saw) Still have them after 26 years and they have seen the're share of many home improvement projets plus some contracting over those years. I decided on the makita belt sander because of the variable speed, decibel level and the're proven reliability. I have had two other non makita sanders and they both died. I,m refinishing some older yellow pine floors in two smaller bedrooms and I did not wish to rent a floor sander. Just finished one of them and the variable speed was a must. Looks great!!! and I will save a good dollar doing so. I,m sure I will not be disappointed with my new sander. And the bag works great also. March 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This tool is great for serious surface removal. Don't buy it for small surfaces, little jobs or detail work. This tool is great for serious surface removal. Don't buy it for small surfaces, little jobs or detail work. Everything I own by Makita is top notch. We work our tools hard and pretty much only use DeWalt, Makita, Porter Cable or Milwaukee. You won't be disappointed. November 5, 2013
