I really like these lights but there are definitely some improvements that need to be made. First and most annoying, it comes with 75' of cable, but it's 16 or 18 gauge and it's almost useless. It's so thin that the clip connectors barely make contact with the wire. It's possible, but it's extremely annoying and hard to get right. I have Malibu lights elsewhere in my yard with 14 gauge, and the clip connectors work perfectly. It's supposed to be easy, but the 18/16 gauge wire this set comes with defeats the ease. 2/5 for cable
The plastic stakes are, well, plastic. They're not junk, in fact they're pretty high quality in terms of plastic. The lights screw onto the steaks, but the threading is very soft. It can and will get damaged if you hammer these stakes into the ground. Even a rubber mallet is risky. Just be careful. 3.5/5 for stakes.
The lights are metal and not flimsy. They put off the perfect amount of light for my purpose (view attached pictures). They're not as warm (in terms of kelvin, not hot or cold to touch) as my Malibu LED half-brick step lights (you can see the comparison in the pictures), but it's still a pretty warm light. 5/5 for the lights
Overall, I recommend this set. Decide if $139 is worth it given the useless cable included with this set. As far as the stakes go, what isn't junk these days? It's a problem, yes, but hopefully if you're careful you won't run into any issues. These lights are great compared to 90% of the rest of the landscape lights out there.

This kit is a very simple system but it does need a little bit of tweaking to make it a great system. First off the 18 gauge wire they give you is junk! it needs to be at least 14 gauge or 12 gauge is better. I bought a 100 foot roll of 14 gauge wire for my install and ignored the 18 gauge wire they give you in the kit. The thicker wire makes the connections much more reliable and you can add on more lights later if you want without overloading the wire.
The plastic stakes that are used for the bottom of the lights is easily broken. So when installing the lights I used a piece of rebar and pounded it in the ground to make a hole which made getting the light in the ground much easier. If you dont do something like this its very easy to break the plastic and there is no way to fix it.
The power adapter / transformer is only a 20 watt which means you can only run 16 watts of power out of it because of line loss. I had to upgrade this to a 40 watt because I added a flood light and 5 additional lights. That brought me up to about 25 watts. Why they only give you a 20 watt power pack I cant figure out. But if you only run the 6 lights they give you and a couple more of the same wattage then you will be OK. Any more than that and you will need to go buy a larger transformer.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by RocketScientist Basically a GOOD system but its ACHILLES HEAL is its connectors
The 2 Watt light fixtures put out an incredible amount of light, are designed so as to prevent Trespass Lighting (light shining into your neighbor's home), and install relatively quickly .... but THE "VAMPIRE" PRONG" CONNECTORS ARE VERY POORLY DESIGNED FOR THE WIRE GAUGE THICKNESS THAT COMES WITH THE KIT !!! I just got off the phone with Malibu's Product Support and they are clueless. But if you read the reviews, you will see that many of the problems with this unit are associated with those Vampire Prong connectors.
Each light attaches to the main cable using this connector. The problem is that the connector is designed for a THICKER gauge wire. So when you pinch the 2 ends of the connector together they don't typically make a good connection. The result? Your lights either don't light OR they flicker and stop lighting altogether. And you get upset and return the unit to Home Depot.
I'm an Aerospace Engineer (you know, a Rocket Scientist). I conceived and tried several fixes. Here's the simplest, cheapest (essentially free) and easiest one:
CAREFULLY use a small knife to cut a SMALL slit in the 75' long power distribution cable that comes with the lights, making sure NOT to cut the cable in half or otherwise damage its insulation. Then insert a small piece of insulator (I used a B-B sized piece of the insulator from my old Malibu system I was replacing) in that slit. It will stay in place as you continue the assembly if you made only a small slit. Then connect the Vampire Prongs as shown in the directions. Design problem fixed!
I've had the product for less than a week so I can't respond to any of the other long term complaints (lights not lasting a long time, etc). But I am very impressed with the low wattage used by the LEDs and the incredible amount of light they put out. I expect to save a lot of money on electricity with this system.
But one complaint in closing: The system is designed for external mounting in a location that the supplied photo-sensor will not be affected by other lights (like the lights you are installing ... duh!). If you are not careful in where you place the transformer your lights could go on and off, on and off all night long. I prefer my transformers be installed inside my garage. But then the photo-sensor is useless. My solution? I bought an inexpensive LCD timer and leave the Malibu transformer always in the ON position. This solution works great, turning on the lights at exactly the times I want and not using more electricity than is needed. I wish the Malibu system had such an LCD Clock option as I think it makes the whole installation much more beautiful as well as broaodening its installability.
Malibu: WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE AND FIX THE ACHILLES HEAL OF THIS SYSTEM: ITS VAMPIRE PRONG CONNECTORS !!!
PS The Malibu / Brinkman Company should be paying me a small fortune for my design work!

Bought two 6 light kits and one single light for a total of 13 lights. They were easy to install and look great at night. After 30 days 6 of the 13 lights have failed. Home Depot has replaced them with no question asked but it is a hassle returning them one at a time for the last month. The connectors attached to the lights do not work with the thin cable that came with the kit. Luckily I had to buy a roll of cable to install the lights where I wanted them and it was a heaver gauge that worked with the connectors. I live in south Texas and the transformer sits in the sun all day. The seam at the top of the plastic transformer case opened up exposing the insides of the transformer. Overall this is a nice looking product that has a unacceptably high defect rate and component mismatch issues. Only one star because great appearance and value is not important if product is defective.

These lights look great ! After a very short period they no longer work. I asked the associate at the store about the longevity before we purchased and was assured LED lasts forever. WHAT A JOKE !!!! I am resorting back to the old style ! My Malibu set was over 10 years old ! All I ever had to do was replace bulbs ! LED is just not worth the money, time or energy I've wasted ! DO NOT BUY !!!!!

These lights are absolute garbage. The LED last only a few months (if you are lucky). You will go broke constantly buying new lights! Forget it!

Have these four about 8 months, and 4 have burn out or not working. Email the Company and there website said that there no warranty on them, no one answer my email or get me a straight answer over the phone.

Four out of six lights have failed within 5 weeks. The lights would be great, good light output, low power consumption, but cheap construction spoils a product that would be great. Two of the lights are suffering from a solder joint fail - they actually glow dimly and will flash to full brightness if "tapped" on the top, the other two don't light up at all. I don't have my "Depot" receipt any more, and Malibu expect me to pay to ship the defective product back to them - so I am going to cut my losses and look for a better product. Bottom line, in my opinion the product I bought was not fit for purpose.
