Do I have to purchase a transformer for each light? or can I use one transformer for my 6 lights?

Asked by: bosski
No, one transformer will work if all the lights are connected through it. It will change your 110V outlet into a 12V power supply that you will run the lights off of from there.

How do you attach it to the top of the railing?

The screw holes are horizontal - not vertical I so how do I screw it into the wood????
Asked by: Anonymous
The light is designed to sit on top of a square post, not on top of a rail. Thank You Malibu Support

This question relates to the LED voltage required for the Malibu post cap light fixture. See details below.

Your product description refers to providing a 12 volt transformer output for providing power to the LED fixtures. Transformer power output is alternating current. LED lighting requires low voltage DC power provided by devices called LED low voltage drivers. As I understand it, LED's will burn out is short order on AC power. Specifically, what outdoor rated power supply do you provide or recommend for the above? I am using only four such fixtures on my entryway landing railing.
Asked by: Bear
All of our LEDs run on our 12V AC units. Thank You Malibu

Low Voltage LED Real Copper and Cast Iron Post Cap is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what we were looking for. This light is not too bright but is perfect for for marking the boundary of our deck which is what we wanted. The fixture fit the 4x4 post very good with 4 attaching screws. The screws were a little too tight going through the base of the fixture so I drilled them out very easily to a slightly larger hole making the screws easier to insert. One of my posts was spit at the top and the base did not fit due to the condition of the post. I used a rasp and took just a little off at the top of the post. There is another base adapter to fit the 4x6 post which is not used for the 4x4 post. The bulb is already installed and is not replacable (nonservicable) We are considering purchasing another because they are not too bulky or bright. At this time we have had the lights about a month.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from accented new deck perfectly very easy installation needed something to add to the led step lites and this was a perfect addition only thing was i had to apply a few coats of clear lacquer to stop moisture from oxidizing the copper once i did that it stayed pretty

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good lighting for only 1 watt It might be more expensive than the solar lights but the bulb is LED suppose to last for 30 years and it looks much better than the solar system

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice quality lights We already have eight of these lights. But some were damaged by the snowplow. I am more than willing to replace with the same thing. They are very attractive. I coated them with a copper sealer before installing them. They have held up well except the physical abuse. They are each mounted on top of 4x4 posts along my retaining wall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOW VOLTAGE LED REAL COOPER AND CAST IRON POST CAP EASY TO INSTALL, LOOKS GOOD. NEED TO FIND OUT WHAT TO USE TO CLEAN THE COOPER. I WOULD RECOMMEND TREATING THE TOP BEFORE TOO LONG AFTER INSTALLATION. WE DIDN'T NOW WERE TRYING TO FIND HOW TO CLEAN THE COPPER. OTHERWISE THEY ARE GREAT.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from clear-coat or patina - which do you want? I purchased these lights at three different times for a major project. Malibu has apparently made a change in this product. Some have raw copper that will patina over time. The others have a clear-coat over the copper, so maintain the bright copper look. We'll see how long the clear-coat lasts… Just check what you're getting to be sure they're all the same.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very attractive and gives a warm light at night I installed 9 of these post lights around the parameter of my deck and it looks wonderful at night. Not too bright but enough light to give a warm glow. Only problem is the screws that attach the copper cap to the base have developed rust stains. They should be copper or galvanized.
