Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pefect curtain solution for a patio slider Attached are photos of grommet curtains for a patio slider installed on a curtain rod made of a 1" black pipe 94" long with wooden finials & brackets, all from Home Depot. You will notice that this arrangement accommodates all of the curtain stack well outside of the door frame, hence assuring no blockage of light coming through the door when curtains are open. This solution is worth considering by do-it-yourself customers. The black pipe, with a 1 1/4" outside diameter, was a perfect fit for the finials & brackets, which were made for 1 1/4" poles. The black pipe was chosen because it would not sag, even under a load much greater than these particular curtains. A wooden pole of that length would sag and need a center support, which is not feasible for a slider. The black pipe was cleaned with a soap and ammonia solution and then paint thinner, to remove oily residue, then primed with a good adhesion primer before applying two coats of semi-gloss woodwork paint. The pipe was sanded with 320 grit sandpaper between coats to assure a smooth finish. The wood finials were attached to the ends of the pipe by inserting a 4" length of 1" diameter wooden dowel in each end and screwing the finial into it. A friction fit worked for me, but if the dowel isn't tight enough a bit of glue will hold it in place. The pipe was painted by suspending it from the basement ceiling at a convenient height with two ropes with nooses. Broomstick-sized dowels or rods were inserted into the ends of the pipe and the nooses were placed on these rather than the pipe itself. The pipe is easy to paint from right to left while turning it as you go. A tarp underneath protects the floor. Lacking solid wood behind the sheetrock, 3/16" X 2" toggle bolts from Home Depot were used as fasteners for the brackets, two per bracket. These have proven to be strong enough for the job. These require a 1./2" hole to be drilled through the sheetrock for admittance of the toggle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice looking item It screwed right into the wooden pole no problem. However, I had to shorten a couple of poles to fit. I would recommend drilling pilot holes in the poles before inserting finial. The screw is so big that it tends to drift off center when getting it started.
