Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by nice paint but difficult to do pattern I used this paint this past weekend in my dining room and love the results but it was not easy to do, would have given it a 5 if it was easier to do. Here are my tips when using this paint: 1. Prime the walls first! 2. Use two coats of light strokes paint for the base to make sure you have good coverage. Apply paint using V rolling pattern but then finish with a down roll to keep the sheen going in one direction, otherwise it will look like you have a lot of over lapping lines. 3. For the final decorative coat I added Wagner Paint Easy (thinner for paint) to the light strokes paint. I added 8 ounces thinner to one quart paint, mix well. This is double what is recommended but I tried using just 4 oz but the paint dried to fast. If you don't add the thinner to the paint then it dries extremely fast and is difficult to do the pattern without getting overlap lines and clumping of paint. 4. Use two people to do final decorative coat, one person to roll on the diluted paint, again finishing with a down roll. The second person does the decorative design right behind the roller. I used a four inch bristle brush (Martha Stewart bristle brush) and did a crisscross pattern. I kept wet paper towels in my hand to wipe off the bristles when I noticed any paint clumping on the walls, I also had a bowl of water I would dip the brush in from time to time to clean it off better. Even with the two person technique you could still see a little overlap line but it was not bad and got less noticeable as we perfected our technique. The trick is to work quickly so the paint doesn't dry before you can do the pattern. 5. Step back from time to time to review the wall, add extra brush strokes as needed to make the pattern you like. In the dining room I used canoe color on the upper wall and hare color on the bottom third with white chair rail molding. It looks great. In my living room I will use just canoe. I tried using hare as the base coat and canoe as the decorative top coat but that did not work, overlap marks were very noticeable. Instructions on the paint can say to tape a line, I didn't do this, seemed like you would definately get an overlap line that way. We love the new look, it was well worth all the effort but if you are a novice painter this is not an easy project. February 15, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful texture when done I just completed a project using Taro Root Lightstrokes paint. It was a bit difficult and didn't look good until the final coat was applied. We primed first (highly recommend) and then did the first coat. It looked terrible, streaky and blotchy. Dont panic. I expected it to, from the reviews. You need to wait 24 hours between coats. For our second coat, we couldn't determine which finish to use, cross hatch or brush. We decided to lightly cross hatch and then dab with a sponge to soften the look. It came out beautiful. I would definitely do this again. February 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Big bang for the buck! I used this on a small half bath and love the effect! You do need to prime, and allow the first coat to dry thoroughly or the second coat will "lift" the first off the wall. The second coat is the money coat - this paint is heavy bodied, and even though it doesn't DRY quickly, it sets up very quickly. Practice on a piece of spare drywall and get your technique down because the working time is fairly short. Keep it consistent, and no matter if you use the round brush or a good paint brush for the technique, the effect is beautiful. Only complaint - I would really have loved an on-line tutorial how-to, rather than the printed brochure which was complete, but brief. October 15, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Tips for this paint This is awesome paint! It comes out looking beautiful, while it takes time, it is not as intensive as many faux patterns. I did one room with the round brush, and everyone thought it looked like fancy wallpaper. I did our Master with the cross hatch, and it was really cool: just a little difficult to keep consistent. SAVE MONEY: do the first coat in a paint and primer with a similar color. I did both my rooms like this, and it only took one coat of the Light Strokes paint that I did with the texture. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love lightstrokes We just painted my tray ceiling. OMG it's is amazing . We used the circle textured brush and the finish look is just what we wanted ( even better) . 2coats . 1st coat needs to dry for 24 hours. Then the second coat is when we added the texture . I love the different colors and shimmer this paint has . Just enough with out being over the top . Sorry about my photo being upside down . April 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing texture We recently painted our living room accent wall it looks amazing. We used 2coats of light strokes and used a stipple brush to get the texture which was not mentioned in the instructions May 10, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it! I bought this for my bedroom about 2 to 3 years ago…I LOVED it then, and still love it. I would love to do my living room and dining room with the same paint (different color of course). I did it completely on my own and was very happy with the results. It was not hard at all…and you don't have to worry about any brushstrokes showing, because they are SUPPOSED to. I did use a primer (only because of the color I was going over as well as going over dark wood paneling as well). It was really easy! January 28, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by AWFUL paint to work with in home This paint was purchased for its quality and features to provide a beautiful colour on our walls. It created the opposite. The paint creates extreme STREAKS, required 3 COATS, and shows now display of quality. I used the roll brush recommended or encouraged for that fact (another expense) and it left residue. My husband is an expert painter and he hated it too. So, Martha, I hope you continue to enjoy your lifestyle as the rest of us purchase another brand of paint. POOR!!!! March 26, 2014
