Customer Questions & Answers

Does this ever come in a Chrome finish?

Asked by: ChrissyB
Polished Nickel is definitely warmer than Chrome, which has cool blue undertones. Nickel, on the other hard, has warm yellow undertones. It will most likely clash with chrome. I personally prefer Polished Nickel over chrome. It has a classy, timeless, and versatile look.

what is the finish on this matchbox latch? is it satin nickel, stainless or what?

Asked by: choclover
The Bedford Nickel finish is a slightly textured warm gun metal grey. It is not intended to be a brushed nickel, as some people in the reviews have mistakenly thought they were ordering. I love both the Bedford Nickel and Polished Nickel finishes- I've got no experience with the Bedford Brass.

Doesn't match my hardware, and had to return it to the local store to then have to buy a substitute pull. It too isn't the best fit as the selection in the store was limited and the choice I had to make to be able to use the cabinet is larger than what it should be; i.e. the dimensions don't match the cabinet hardware that I was "forced" to buy. While it is functional, it has changed the look of the cabinet to some degree. if I could have exchanged the store display piece and replaced it with this (web based order) nickel one, things would have worked out fine. As it turns out, you don't offer a chrome one; only brass and brushed nickel, so my question is why are you displaying chrome stock that is out of date?

The latch in the picture looks typical of unlacquered brass which has a high sheen and the potential to patina. The actual finish is a "faux" finish - an attempt to simulate the look of unlacquered brass that has been allowed to develop a patina. Not very convincing. I am returning these along with the Bedford Brass Pulls which I ordered.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Looks Cheap Although the price was a little lower than similar latches I could find on other websites, the quality of the product was a lot lower. The brushed nickel color looks painted on and not like real metal. The latch itself was functional. I decided to return it for a product that would look better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Matchbox Catch I am very disappointed in this hardware. I remodeled an early 1900 kitchen and wanted to keep it in character with the era. These catches look great but are either not well made or not designed correctly. The knob will come loose and spin making it impossible to disengage the latch. The catch then needs to be taken off (four screws), have an interior set screw tightened, and then reinstalled. Also during this malfunction you are unable to open your cabinet door. Someone needs to tell Martha Stewart about this.
