Many things need to be considered when coordinating your countertop with your cabinets. You need to look at the entire room. How much natural light comes into the room? How much is artificial? What material is your flooring as well as color or pattern? What is the hue of the wood on your cabinets? (Is it golden, honey, brownish or natural?) Many things need to be considered when coordinating your countertop with your cabinets. You need to look at the entire room. How much natural light comes into the room? How much is artificial? What material is your flooring as well as color or pattern? What is the hue of the wood on your cabinets? (Is it golden, honey, brownish or natural?) I often ask my customers if they like to change the paint color frequently or stick to one color in particular on the walls. This will help to decide if you want to stay neutral on the top or to go with a more committed color? Then you need to ask yourself what type of patterns do you prefer: Veiny, speckles, shiny or wide open patterns?
Once you've considered these questions, bring a drawer front or door to the showroom, and put it against the samples. Choose a couple that appeal to you. (At Home Depot, most of our kitchen designers have a lot of experience in helping people, be sure to get their opinion!)
Bring a couple of samples home to look at in your light. The colors will look different at different times of the day and with weather changes.
If you do all of the above, you will be able to determine what "you like" and what will work "for you".
