When I first took it out of the package, the rubber was fairly soft and it did an adequate job of graining. But the next day (after cleaning in cold water and letting it dry beside the sink), the rubber was hard and like others have said, it wasn't touching the surface evenly. It was warped and only made contact in the center, leaving just a couple of wide streaks.
The comb that came with it is still soft and does an excellent job, but the graining tool is junk.

Brought tool home, watched videos, practiced and practiced and turns out, it does not even sit flush on the flat surface, which undermines its design and function to provide faux bois texture. Looking for another tool, that will sit flat on surface. Surprised no one has said anything yet....probably because of the cheap price not being worth the hassle of typing.

This thing is awful, as other reviewers have pointed out, it won't sit flush on the wall, so you end up with a series of weird streaks on your wall.

This woodgraining tool has an arch so that only the outer sides contact the surface. Rather than producing a wood grain with knots, it produces two wide racing strips. No wood species I've ever seen.
The center of the tool never even touches the paint or the surface. Perhaps this was a defective tool.
