Answer:
Yes, but you will lose the pre-drilled holes on the end you cut. So you would need to pre-drill a new hole prior to securing the system together to prevent the board from accidentally splitting.

Answer:
If you cut the shelves smaller, then I would think you would have to cut the sides smaller as well in order for the shelves to stay in place, to fit and to be secure; in which case, you would be reconstructing the entire unit. Maybe I'm not understanding, or visualizing your question accurately. My advice would be to call the toll free number on the Martha Stewart closet organizer website, and ask them. Read More

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 114 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ordered 2, 1 came broken in half I purchased several of these and had a fair experience with the first round. However, it's been difficult to get a replacement after one of the two starter kits I ordered arrived cracked April 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Custom designed closet at a very reasonable price I am actually reviewing the entire closet system I purchased not just the starter kit. I custom-designed a closet on-line. it arrived very promptly - actually sooner than anticipated. Since it was custom-designed it did not come with instructions. So between the instructional video on the web site and the separate piece instructions in the packages, I figured it out. It took much longer than anticipated to install it but part of it was me making sure I was doing it right. It looks amazing and I've received compliments on "my handiwork." Great value as I'm sure it would have cost 2x this amount to have a closet company do the work. February 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very pleased, great replacement service The shelving unit has been installed for about three weeks and looks great. I am using it to store quilting fabric. This may be heavier than the average load for a closet shelf. Time will tell if the shelves sag. The instructions tell you how much sagging will overload the unit. I ordered two towers. One arrived broken. I phoned the number. An actual person representing Martha Stewart Living answered the call and arranged for an immediate shipment of the replacement panels. The replacements arrived very quickly. April 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by White hanging starter I was looking for a 24" wide shelf for an awkward space in our closet and found this. Matches our white closet shelf/clothes hanger bar. It was a little wide with the shelves plus the added width of the side panels. I ended up trimming off the added width of the side panels from the shelves and ended up with a total width of 24" instead of the 24" wide shelves plus the side panels. Also trimmed the metal 32" hanger bracket bar to 24". Worked out great with a little bit of work. Hope the partial board can last. February 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product Very pleased with the way it looks. My closet is so much more organized now. One of the boxes came damaged so two of the boards were broken. I didn't have any trouble getting new ones shipped to me. I was also missing 10 screws but they were quickly shipped to me after I called. If you are not in a hurry (I wasn't) this product is great for the price you paid. Also, the boards that go on top of the closet system had to be staggered (not straight across) because they are separate pieces instead of one long piece. Hope this makes sense. January 12, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by looks good but missing parts There are key shelves that are "no longer available", which I knew going in, and could easily replace from Home Depot melamine shelf stock. However, the shelves that are shown, some of which came, were omitted when I added drawers to the unit. I wanted both and it wasn't clear that the drawers were substituting out the shelves. Or they were just left out. I had to invest in 6-48" shelves to get product I had created online. Martha Stewart should have better quality control to be selling through HD when you can't actually get all the parts. I ordered this unit in addition to the basic full wall unit at the store and the employees who helped me had to go through quite a rigmarole to even get the order to go in. Because I had someone installing it for me, and calling and ordering additional shelves would have meant delay, I had to shell out more money at HD for shelving that day. That said, the closet system looks good. I hope it will hold up. January 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than Expected First I want to say that this review, for the sake of efficiency, should include the Martha Stewart drawers as well. We had two identical reach in closets next to each other in our master bedroom. We knocked out the wall between them and took the old wire and plastic closet organizers out. I went on the Home Depot website and then to the link for the Martha Stewart Closet Design which is where I designed our closets. It was easy and I liked doing it. We wanted less furniture in our bedroom so our closet design had one of these closet starter kits with four drawers in the center and then we added two more 'kits' on each side for a total of five kits with half hanging 'tops' and four drawers on each kit bottom. We have twenty drawers--five, four inch deep across and fifteen, eight inch below. Our nephew did most of the installation work and my husband put most of the drawers together. They both were very impressed with the quality of all the pieces and parts and how well everything worked. It is beautiful and functional. We are thrilled with it. The cost is considerably less than the other three closet systems we considered, but the quality was the same or better. The drawers slide quietly and smoothly. I am including a photo although this was taken when we still had some 'work stuff'' lying around and it is visible--so excuse our 'whatnot' but we are very excited about our new Home Depot, Martha Stewart closet system We plan on using the space above the closet system for seasonal clothes and bedding and the space below for shoes. The spaces on either side (minimal), will have hooks for scarves, ties, etc. And before I forget---the free shipping came two days early; the truck driver put it in my garage (it was raining and my husband wasn't home). Every piece and part was included; nothing was missing; nothing was damaged. This was a 'project made in paradise'. April 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Martha Steward Closet System The Martha Steward closet rail system made it easy to install the closet panels. The hanging rods was a breeze to install, we were impress how much weight the hanging rods could hold. February 23, 2015
