Customer Questions & Answers

Can this door be cut to 26" wide?

This is a hollow core door.
Asked by: BOB
You could but it'd be a real job to do it. Once you'd trim off the side (keeping it straight is going to be a bit of a challenge....I'd probably run painters tape down the edge I was trimming off to keep a clean line). Then you'd need take the trimmed off piece, get the front and back surfaces of the door off it to be able to tap it back into the hollow part (use a rubber mallet or piece of scrap wood over the piece you are hammering back in to protect it from breaking both the door seams and the wood strip). I'd suggest using a bead of wood glue when tapping back in and then finishing nails to make sure it's secure. Good luck with your project if you decide to take it on.

Can someone come to my home and measure my door and replace it

Asked by: Cookie
I suggest calling your local Home Depot rather than posting a question. They'd be able to guide you to the best person or local contractor and handyman. Get options. Remember this is your home and you are the person writing the check (you are in charge). If they come out and say they'd give you a better price if you payed cash or hire them directly without Home Depots guarantee then look for someone else. They are probably not licensed, bonded, or insured. I don't like this aspect of using Home Depot. At the end of the day you could be left high and dry and not have any recourse. Very unprofessional in my opinion.

Can this door be cut down just a little?

I have an older double wide home. My door sized needs to be 29 3/4 by 78. would it be possible to cut this door to this size. I realize it is hollow but I was just wondering? thank you so much for your help! Roxann Hill
Asked by: Roxie
Yes, I used a jig saw and mounted the bypass door hardware to the opposite end. Even though they are hollow there are still solid pieces (apx. 1 and a half to 2 inches running along the edges). There is also a solid area where the door nob, handle, etc. is installed. Shouldn't be a problem.

Customer Reviews

30 in. x 80 in. Smooth Flush Hardboard Hollow Core Primed Composite Interior Door Slab is rated 1.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pathetic If I were Masonite I'd be ashamed to put my brand name on this door. If I were Home Depot I'd be embarrassed to have this door in my store for my customers. I bought the door knowing it had a hardboard surface. I needed to cut 1" from the length of the door. When one does that the entire bottom rail is removed, it's only 3/4" thick. Also the top and bottom rails are not wood, they are cardboard. A drill bit will not cut through it like it does wood.
