i bought a 24x80 door i need a 24x78 how much can i cut?

Asked by: eddie
You can cut up to 1" off of the bottom at the very most. If you need to cut 2" off, you will need to cut another piece of wood to provide structure to the bottom of the door, as you will have cut off the part of the door that is already doing this. This piece of wood must be cut precisely and installed with glue and clamps. Be sure to cut from the bottom of the door only.

the door i'm replacing is 29 1/2". is this a special order item or the actual dimesion of a 30" door?

Asked by: jtaff
The 30" refers to the door opening size. The door itself will actually be 29.5" wide so that there is a little bit of a gap on either side so that it can fit into the frame.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THIS DOOR CHANGED MY LIFE. Just kidding. It's a door. It works fine, looks fine, and consistently fails to jump into flames for no reason. Solid product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from @ecm1137 Um, were you expecting a door to be ready to install? lol Next time please not that it's a door SLAB. They don't come with hardware attached, or painted, because they do not know what your set up or interior paint color is. You buy the slab and customize it yourself. This door is very inexpensive and looks great, ready to be primed for your own house interior.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great door for the price Our house had a mix match of doors so we bought these so all the door in the house will match. Improving the look of the house greatly. Able to do it for about half of what I thought I would pay. Great looking product at a great price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from @ecm1137 The doors are primed and will always have to be painted (thats the 'off white color you describe). These don't have holes bored because they are also used for sliding closet doors. They can be bought with holes bored for handles but usually you will want to do this yourself as frame in different houses are different. Home Depot (and usually all hardware stores) sells a couple of different door kits with a chisel, hinge guide and hole saws. Also, they do offer installation starting at 89$/door

Rated 4 out of 5 by from FOR THE PRICE U CANT BEAT AN INSTANT FACELIFT ON YOUR HOME, I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THE BOARDED DOOR FOR ONLY A FEW BUCKS MORE, EVEN THOUGH MIGHT SAVE TIME, IS NOT AS STURDY AS THIS DOOR, SINCE THIS DOOR HAS TO 2 PIECES OF BLOCK WOOD IN THE CENTER FOR THE DOOR KNOB, VERSES THE BOARDED DOOR ONLY HAS ONE

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Bang for buck They will give an old house an updated look. Recently purchased a 1950's home and these doors made a bigger difference that I could have imagined. I did have to trim a bit off the sides and bottom, they will make a huge mess (the 28" mostly), because every door was custom made, but overall was very worth it. If you can avoid trimming them it will be as easy as pie.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic for the price We are thrilled with these doors. We bought them for a house we are flipping and are very impressed. There are some VERY minor flaws in the finish, but with two coats of inexpensive latex paint they look wonderful. Waiting for carpet before we hang them. Fantastic for the price!
