Customer Questions & Answers

When I order, How can I make sure the louvers are slatted downward towards front of door?

Asked by: lolly
I had the same question because, in my case, the louver door opens out from an electronics component cabinet which generates quite a bit of heat, and I wanted to make sure the louvers slope UP from the inside to allow the heat to escape. Here is the answer. First, realize that the door shown on the Home Depot website is the Internet version made by Masonite. Masontie does NOT allow you to specify the direction of slope of the slats and they don't tell you which direction the slats will slope on the door that you order. From the online picture of the door, it appears the slats point downward when you are facing the door, and the door swings towards you, i.e. an "outswing" door. But they don't tell you this specifically. If the direction of slope of the slats is important to you, you have to get the Jeld-Wen brand, which can only be ordered in-store. The specs for the slope direction of the slats for my door, for instance, would be "DOWN ON THE STOP SIDE, AND UP ON THE HINGE SIDE." One final note. This is only an issue if you ordered a pre-hung door. If you ordered a slab door, of course, you can choose the direction of slope simply by choosing which side faces "out." One suggestion to Home Depot and to Masonite: given the number of customers who seem to be confused or frustrated by the the slope direction of the slats, please provide that information on the website. Better yet, Masonite should allow customers to choose the slope direction of the slats as Jeld-Wen does. You will have a lot more business and a lot more happy customers that way.

Can I hang two 36 x 80 plantation doors on a track like a barn door?

Asked by: cc
Hello CC, It shouldn't be a problem as long as the hardware you're using is rated for more than the two doors weigh. This door weighs 65 lbs so for two of them it would be 130 lbs so if the hardware is rated for more than that you will be just fine. Thank you for your question.

what do you mean by composite?

when its states composite as in exterior composite grade material? will it still rot? if i were to use this under an overhang where water might hit it and after 2 coats of paint primer sprayed onto it will it rot just as fast as non composite material? there are to entrance doors to hallways that have 2 of these door next to each other like french doors and they have been there for years one does not look at good as the other one as in paint is peeling but the one still looks great after years.
Asked by: tidewaterhomerepair
Composite doors are a mixture of various wood products and liquid polymers, including PVC, and coloring agents which are mixed and pressed or molded into doors. The polymers and coloring agents do not rot or rust and the wood products are completely sealed by the polymers. That means that these doors do not rot. Paint is another story. If it is not the proper paint - weather resistant, exterior paint - and/or the surface is not properly prepared, there is a very good chance that you will experience paint peel, which could explain what happened to one of your doors. This will happen even on composite doors. Rather than replacing the offending door, I would thoroughly scrape, sand and clean it and then paint it with a proper exterior primer and paint. In order to insure that the two doors match, you should also refinish the good door. However, since this door still has a good finish all it would require would be a light sanding to roughen the surface and a good cleaning. All you would need for this door would be a finish coat - no primer coat.

How much space is included for flooring on prehung doors. I framed my door using the rough opening. I am planning tile

Asked by: KJH
Recommended rough opening height is 82 in. The door frame itself is 81 1/2 in. in height and the actual door is 80 in. high. Leaving 1/2 in. between the bottom of the door and the finished floor, that would give you 1 in. as the height for your flooring.

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: Luis
No, this is a prehung door which means that hinges have been attached and the door has already been installed in a completely assembled jamb. You need to purchase two 36 in. x 80 in. smooth, full louver, solid core, primed, composite, single, UNBORED, SLAB, interior door. These doors can be mounted as sliding closet doors.

How high is the cross-piece (dividing the louver areas) from the floor?

How high is the cross-piece (dividing the louver areas) from the floor? It appears that about one-third the louver area is below the cross-piece. What is the actual measurement?
Asked by: RD
The distance between the very bottom of the door and the very bottom of the center rail is 34 in. Between the very bottom of the door and the center of the center rail is 36 in.

Customer Reviews

32 in. x 80 in. Plantation Smooth Full Louver Solid Core Primed Composite Single Prehung Interior Door is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Regarding Louvers wrong review I found this review very helpful and when i brought it up to the home depot rep to do the special order he said that was because it was ordered incorrectly or built incorrectly because as part of the special order process you specify which way you want the slats to face in relation to the hinge side. We went through the process together and the pictures gave you the option to make sure the slats were going the correct direction for your specific application. Make sure you think this out and go over and double even triple check with the person doing the special order and I am sure you will be happy with your purchase.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Louvers wrong The quality of the door is fine, however, the way the door is pre-hung has the louvers facing the wrong way. So if you're using this door for a closet, the side of the louvers that should be facing out, faces into the closet.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty but cheap doors These are very pretty but not of the solid construction I expected based on price. They are quite light and damage easily in the shipping transport. I don't mean the slat portion of the door, I mean the solid portions that surround the slats. The slats are not too big as mentioned in previous review. They are exactly appropriate. These aren't shutters, they are doors, so the slats should be wider. I'm not recommending because I think they are significantly over priced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pre-Hung Plantation Louver Door This door was exactly what I was looking for, its priced right and looks great. I purchased it for my mechanical room in the basement. It came pre-hung which was a breeze to install. The door compliments my other doors throughout the house. I would highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice door, shipping is too much.......just box it in cardboard and send to the store like the other doors! This louvered door is nice. Should have had an option which way the louvers face as I now look through the louvers into the basement. They should have faced the other way. Installed in a snap and looks good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A little more expensive as I would like but their quality. once seen, made them worth it. Were package for protection. Good quality and worth the wait.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Plantation Door The product was not designed in accordance to my request. It was returned because the louvers were inset to move air upward this was not acceptable. The door opened from left to right not right to left as was requested. This was a special order and the 5 weeks wait made this even more of a inconvenience for me.
