Customer Questions & Answers

What gauge is this rated?

Will it supported cast iron sewer pipe?
Asked by: Rick
The material is 28 - 30ga. depending on the material delivered from our vendor and is designed for 40 pounds of static load. We can't recommend this product for this purpose, as we have never tested product under these conditions. Please call MasterFlow Technical Services, at 80-211-9612, M-F 8A-5P EDT for additional information.

Is it galvanized? Or will it rust?

Asked by: nick
Yes, as I stated, it is galvanized, making it rust resistant. Any iron/steel can rust, given the right conditions. I've drilled holes in mine. That compromises the galvanizing. Evententually, it will rust, but I've only used 20 feet of a 150' roll, so I can make replacements, if necessary. You can always coat the drill holes with Rustoleum or Flex-Seal to seal out corrosives.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from They Really Cheapened this HS1.5S28 Hanger Strap. They really cheapened this product. It is 25% thinner, 25% weaker. The most recent case I bought of this really disappointed me. It's not the same quality as it used to be. I have bought a lot of this same material, same part number for years from Home Depot. It is Master Flow HS1.5S28 Hanger Strap / Strapping, 1.5” wide x 100 ft roll. Home Depot says it is 28 gauge galvanized sheet metal. But it is thinner than nominal Standard Manufacturer’s Gauge designation. I measured the thickness of some of the material I bought last year. I bought about 10 cases. I measured it with a micrometer to the nearest ten-thousandth of an inch and found the old stock to be .0164 / .0162” thick. I measured it in several places on several pieces. The thickness of the new (current) stock measures .0120 / .0118. So it is thinner by 25%. That is a lot. The width of the old stock measured 1.500”. The new stock measures 1.480”. That is .020” narrower. Not a big deal. I weighed a 1 foot length of the old stock at 608 grams. A 1 ft length of the new stock weighs 435 grams. That’s well over 25% lighter weight. But another big disappointment was the zinc coating. The old stock had a nice zinc galvanized appearance with the nice galvanized pattern. The new stock does not have a standard galvanized appearance and consider it to have inferior corrosion resistance. I know companies try to cut corners and increase profit but this was a big drop in quality. I don’t know how they can call it 28 gauge steel any more. I think they thought no one would notice. Maybe they started sourcing it from China to save money. China really cheapens things like that. So, I’m afraid to use this stuff, being so thin and with an inferior galvanized surface. I will no longer use this stock, I’ll find a different source for better stuff. Yes, they really cheapened this product.

You had it! Right width, right thickness and right length (i.e. plenty of it). I've used it to make a bunch of cargo net hooks for my new 6' X 12' open bed trailer. Its strong, but pliable enough to fold and thin enough to drill holes for nails and those thick, plastic bungee hooks. These trailers don't come with anything to fasten tarps or nets. This hanger strap is strong and galvanized to resist condensation in HVAC and in outdoor conditions. Thanks for having it! Steve Smith, Redlands, CA

For a while it was much thinner. It is good strong stuff now. I like this better than the perforated strapping.
