Customer Questions & Answers

Is there a screen on the back side to keep insects/bees out?

Asked by: Jennifer
Hello Jennifer. It does not have a screen on the back. The vent is molded with small holes as part of the vent. This allows it to hold up to a lifetime (probably longer) of service without ever needing to replace a screen. I have had mine in place for 1 1/2 years now and they work great. The attic stays cooler, and so does the house. I do not have any sofit vents, but they do a great job.

Does this vent go under the siding? Do I have to remove siding 4 this to work?

Asked by: Tom
It actually has a rim that allows it to go over the siding. Just cut the hole to size, use some good grade silicone around the hole and screw it in place. I have had mine a year and half, and it works great. Does a great job cooling and venting, and no leaks despite some very harsh Maine weather.

# of square inches of circulation

What are the # of square inches of circulation on this and other vents? I want the most curculation possible for the available space
Asked by: ejr1
Your Home Depot store has a wide variety of styles and sizes. They also sell the vents on-line. The best way to assure maximum ventilation is with soffit vents as well as the peak louvers. My 100+ year old house has no soffit vents, but two of these do a great job. I choose the largest size my peak could take, while staying about the level of the attic insulation. To figure the square inches of any vent just multiply the two dimensions. SO this 12 x 18 would be 216 sq. inches.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Straight-forward install, usage, etc. I installed this in the gable ends of my new shed, between the studs and the siding. I had to think about how to actually install the unit, so that the drip points were down, and actually outside the shed (I know that sounds self-explanatory, but try it when you're working on an unsteady ladder, and there are no real references on the plastic. It went in easily, is strong enough for the job, was certainly less expensive than metal, and was seemingly strong enough for the task I was asking of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Needed to replace an attic vent this looks like it will last a long time. Also punch the holes you need before you get up in the attic. The plastic is very sturdy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This vent will never rust I live in a house with no eve venting. These gable vents and a through the roof vent solved my moisture and heat issues, They are easy to install, just trace the size (line the top up on a siding ridge to keep it level), and cut out the hole. Apply liberal silicone to help in case of sideways rain, and screw it in. They are solid vinyl, so they should last a lifetime. I do recommend pre-drilling the holes.
