These vent fans fit right into a crawl space vent opening. That's the easy part. They require a CGFI outlet (with a breaker, like in a bathroom) to be plugged into. So wiring has to be run in the crawl space. It says NOT to run them on an extension cord. I wired the plugs to a switch in the kitchen so I can easily turn them on and off. They are not supposed to be permanent, but seasonal I guess. But I doubt I'll bother switching them out since I can turn them off.
They seem to move a lot of air, which is why we bought them. So that's great.
One of the vents would only run at full speed after I flipped it over. So perhaps there's a top and bottom? Perhaps it was binding the other way?

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Markdaspot Its Ok unless you expect to permanently install it!
Bought the power vent online and when I received the unit looked simple enough. It looked like any other foundation vent only with a fan on it. I do construction so installing this would not be that big of a deal.
I thought I would read the instructions just in case! And in the instructions there is a section that tells you that this unit must be removed after ever use! What?
My particular installation will have me pulling back a portion of my siding due to it over lapping the mortar joint where the vent would sit. Not a big deal if I'm doing it once. Time consuming and a pain if I had to do that every time I used it. Not to mention the extension cord I would have to run to power it..
I might have missed that in the description when I ordered the unit ,but I didn't see that anywhere.when I was looking to purchase this unit

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Robert Cheap plastic junk for temporary situations
I thought I was buying a fan to install under my home to help keep the crawl space dry. Instead I got a cheap piece of plastic junk that came with a description of being for temporary use. I wish the description on the Home Depot website had mentioned it wasn't for permanent installations. Most flimsy piece of junk I've ever bought from Home Depot or Lowes. Very disappointing when I unboxed it. As I held it in my hands I could hear a cracking noise from where the fan attached to the plastic frame due to stress as I tilted it one direction or another. I can't imagine what would happen to the frame once the fan was plugged in. The stress of the high RPM motor would probably finish it off in short order.

This unit is designed to be be installed as a removable vent and removed when not turned on and the permanent vent re-installed . There are better vents on the market that can be installed permanently and only run when needed.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Trav Fine product, but not what I needed.
Easy to install and worked just as advertised. However, it ended up not being what I needed. By bringing more humid air into my crawlspace, I only increased my moisture problem. I now have even more water standing on my plastic water barrier. Next purchase is a dehumidifier.
