Our bathroom vent fan terminated in the open in our attic -- thanks a lot, previous owner. I picked up this vent and some insulated 4" flexible duct and the situation was a piece of cake to remedy. Sawzall'd a hole in the roof for the attached 4" duct, cut shingles to fit around the top half of the vent, screwed it all down over plenty of roofing compound, and squirted some more roofing compound over the screw heads to be safe. Works like a charm and we've noticed neither critters nor leakage.
Be aware that the integrated flap makes a bit of noise in high wind. It was a bit surprising to hear light clunking noises through the ceiling fan the first couple of times.
