CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 75 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not worth the price We use this to keep our sliding door closed as a safety measure. It is adjustable and has a rubber stop so it won't damage anything. However, for the price, any kind of wooden stick would have worked just as well. November 12, 2008
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent product for multiple uses We've been using this bar for quite some time now; we normally set it in the main door(s) after everyone is in, so we can have peace of mind at night time while we are sleeping; our neighborhood is pretty safe, but this bar gives us the extra security we need and feel comfortable with; it is well built, good quality materials and rugged yet gentle on the door's handle & floor. We got at a discounted price since we used a $10 coupon at that time. We were thinking on getting an additional one for the outdoor sliding door, but as someone else mentioned, we figured we could use something else; we opted to get a thick good quality cooper tube, which we custom cut at home depot to fit perfectly; since there was a left over, we also cut another bar shorter this time so we can set it in those days when we feel like leaving that door half way open. In any case this master lock product, as most of their products, won't let you down (I already had many people asking me where I got from: the answer has always been the same: at the Home Depot (a free endorsement there, what can I say...) Rated 1 out of 5 by Not as good as you think! I just picked it up from my local HD. Got home and installed it on our basement door. I had my son who is 17 try and force the door open. With a 45 degree angle he was able to force the solid steel door with some force. with a 35 degree angle, he was also able to force door open with more force. On both trials my son said he was holding back and could have increased force but it wasn't required. The part that was interesting was where the device fail point was. It uses a spring loaded pin to select the length of the stick and to hold it in place. Both times when pressure was applied to the pole it was at the spring loaded pin that it failed. When you apply pressure the spring loaded pin slides in and out of place, with enough pushes the pin retracts all the way and the pole falls out of place. I wouldn't trust this thing when it comes to security. Because in security it either works or it doesn't and in this case it DOESN'T! A permanent pin once you have selected the proper length is what this pole needs to truly be effective. August 11, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Make home modification to security bar to beef up its strenght to avoid spring loaded pin failure After buying this product and reading negative reviews on this site...."spring loaded pin that it failed. When you apply pressure the spring loaded pin slides in and out of place, with enough pushes the pin retracts all the way and the pole falls out of place." Quick fix to avoid the above problem: After figuring out the height of the bar you will use most of the time..A quick fix to the above problem is to drill a hole thru both tubes and slide/insert in a 2 - 21/2 inch stainless steel screw long enough to go thru both tubes and then simply lock it into place with a hex nut. Or insert a slightly bent thick framing nail to avoid spring loaded pin failure. Both backup pin options can be remove very quickly. Need additional bar heights just drill additional holes to insert screw with nut...pretty simple fix. Buy a screw and nut combo at home depot. For a Do-it-yourselfer.....this will take 5-10 mins. Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid and simple security I read about a number of home invasions in my neighborhood, and bought the Master Door Security Bar. It's very strong, supporting the doorknob and the striker. It's very easy to keep near the door, and to put in place. I'm very satisfied with the purchase, and might buy a second one for an interior door. The price seems very reasonable for the quality of the product. February 12, 2013
