I wish to set a combination that others can not change either purposely or by accident...is this possible with this lock? Can a combination be set on this lock that is unchangeable except with a key?

Answer:
The combination can be reset if the person doing so has the reset key that is provided with the original packing (the reset key is different from the access key). That said, I believe the reset key is universal (not lock specific like the access key) so anyone in possession of a Masterlock reset key for this type of lock could perform the combination change.

Answer:
Yes, the key is required in order to set a combination. I don't remember the exact sequence, but you do have to insert the key in order to set or change the combination.

If you never reset the #'s they might have it on file, but bad news there is only 10,000 different combinations you can have.

Can you get large quantities that are keyed alike?

Our club would like to replace the locks on 16 gates and a few storage sheds, so about 20 locks in total. Due to differing preferences among our members, these dual-operation combination/keyed locks would be ideal, but we would need for them all to be keyed alike. Is that something that you could supply?

Answer:
The Magnum No. M176 does not come with this capability. You could order the Master Lock Commercial No. 176 lock with functionality. Please contact your local Home Depot Special Order desk for more information and to place an order.

Answer:
This item is not setup to be ordered in multiple quantities keyed alike. However, a Home Depot store can special order the equivalent No. 176KALH under their special order SKU. I believe they call the order in first and receive a quote and a ref #, then complete the order for you. Please call your local store in advance, or visit a local Home Depot Special Order desk. Thank you.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 37 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Combo an Key Lock I love the feature to use a key or the combination to open the lock. This way the head mechanic can open it with out having to wait for me to return his call. But I can have others use the combination to get in when they need too an then change the # so they are locked out! October 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great lock Keeps stuff very safe. I like the "set my own combination" feature. In fact, that's why I bought it. September 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very easy to use. This lock is very easy to use! Takes no time at all to change and set your own 4 digit combo. Also has a back up key as well as rubber seals to keep it all clean and working well. It's very high quality and so far extremely reliable. Absolute great buy. September 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cobo Lock Good product seems reliable strong construction & Long shackle August 30, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by good idea I purchased 2 of this locks set up my combination one worked great the other not only open on its combination but you could be 3 numbers off and still open the lock. That's not good. The first lock worked great with the combination but the key is so weak it broke off in the lock. Master lock quality is slipping July 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to set the combo and good desgin Bought this for a storage unit and it was very easy to set the combination. In addition, it has a key if you forget the combo, just don't lose the key AND the combo ;-) Good lock and nice weather protection as well. August 16, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by I like the features but not the flimsy combination and key covers I like the features of this particular padlock (set your own combination and key back up) BUT some of the other features are disappointing. The rubber combination cover is not durable and in time has fallen off. The plastic key cover is loose and doesn't stay closed. I use this lock outdoors so really need the protection of the covers,. August 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not Very Good I bought this combination lock to replace an old Master combination lock for a gate on my property. I could not find an exact replacement at HD and assumed the Master Magnum would work well. My property is very dusty and the lock is exposed to the weather. The Magnum lock combination rollers are very difficult to roll and hard to read with the least bit of dirt or dust on them. The previous lock was about 8 years old and never gave me a problem until it finally filled with dirt and no longer worked. The new one was bad from the start and after about 4 weeks I replaced it with a Brinks combination lock I purchased from a different store. I do not recommend this lock for any application.
