Why does my mastercool blow water out the fan duct

Asked by: Kerry
I don't have that problem. I would think that it may have too much water in it. Did you install the float valve?

Can I put this outside where it might rain?
Asked by: Jo
Jo, This unit is meant to be used in an outdoor setting. As long as the electrical components are protected it should be alright in the rain. - Christina Essick Air Products

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cools my two car garage in Las Vegas I bought this last summer to allow me to continue woodworking in my two car garage/shop throughout the Hellish summers we have here in Las Vegas. It did an excellent job dropping the temperature in the shop to a comfortable 78 - 80 degrees when it was 110 outside. You have to run it with the overhead door open, or it will make the garage so humid that it's unbearable. I learned this lesson when I accidentally left it running once with the doors closed when I had to leave the house for a couple of hours(reminded me of a trip to Houston in mid-August, 110F with 100% humidity.) I like that it has wheels and I can move it around easily. On really hot days, I'm able to always be in the cool air flow no matter what tool station I'm using. The top has drink holders as well as a handy tray. I run mine connected to my garden hose so it has a continuous water supply (better than filling the tank every couple of hours). I had a little trouble at first with the "toilet float style" auto shut off switch not shutting off when the tank was full, but once I tightened it up, everything worked as it should. Note: I also stick a couple small fans in the back corners of my garage to keep the air circulating around. The fans are pretty good, but once the temp reaches 85 or so, out comes the swamp cooler. Don't be afraid of the negative reviews on this product. If you have the right climate (Desert Southwest), and understand how evaporative cooling works, it's a great solution to an unbearably hot garage/shop. This product extended my woodworking season by 3 months last year. Before I got this cooler, I used to have quit working in the garage by the middle of June and wait until September/October to get back to it again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellant I live in phoenix. And this makes my house freezing cold. We have to go outside to warm up. Of course with these, you do know you have to keep door and some windows open to let hot air escape. It does not do my whole house because walls jut out and block air flow. But it makes my living room and kitchen freezing cold. We did use sm. plastic tubing to connect to contin. water supply.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am happy! Ok. I read all the reviews before I purchased this cooler. It was so hot where I live that I had to do something. A portable unit was my only option since I rent. I am a 65 year old woman. I live by myself. I was able to unload and assemble the unit with no assistance. (Of course I had to remove the panels to lighten the unit and be creative to unload it from my truck!) I got the thing assembled. Hooked up the water. Turned the pump on for a bit to moisten the pads. Adjusted windows, closed some doors. Turned on the cooling function and relished the cold air. It did get humid and the cooling slowed down. So I adjusted the windows a little more and voila, my 1000 square foot area got so cold I had to turn the unit on low. Adjusted the windows a little to allow for change in air flow. A while later, I had to turn it off for awhile cause I was cold. So yes, I am happy. Evaporative coolers need ventilation. The unit has to have fresh air flow, otherwise it is trying to cool already humid air. Doesn't work that way. I have the unit by a window, open enough to allow plenty of fresh air. The space also needs to be vented for the humid air to escape, preferably in the direction that you want the cold air to flow. It is a simple concept. Those that did not have success, just needed to make some adjustments. Just take a little time to find out how your space needs to be vented. Fresh air and a place to exhaust the humid air. Easy. I know I am going to enjoy my cold air!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the greatest, and uses a poor motor design This product works great at first. Good air flow on high speed, but very poor on low speed. This is a 1/3 H.P. , 2 speed motor, which uses a big capacitor to get the motor going. Third year I had this unit and capacitor and motor burned up. An electrician friend looked at it and laughed at the cheap motor/capacitor configuration. Replacement motor is $240 plus shipping and you still need the capacitor. Motor mounting is also different and a problem is the motor burs up. By the time you replace the motor, capacitor, and buy an adapter mounting bracket for the motor you are over $300 and if you replace the filters, add another $100. Not worth the money for how long it lasted, and my electrician said it would only last about the same if I replaced it. They should have a bigger motor on all their portable units. The larger unit with the 1/2 H.P. motor is better, standard design, with easily replacable parts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like a champ! It is summer time in Phoenix AZ and it is hot! The heat had me concerned for the welfare of my girls (chickens) so I purchased a Mastercool 1145 CFM 2-speed portable evaporative cooler from Home Depot. It keeps the coop nice and cool. No more worries - it works like a champ!
