Is there a way to run a wire from a temperature probe (purchased separately) into the smoker?
Asked by: GH
Yes. We use one (purchased at Walmart). The wire is small enough that the door can be closed over it without loss of heat.

I'm not sure about the accuracy of the thermostat since each time I've used it, the brisket, ribs, and pork shoulder were not up to desired temperature. I need to increase temp and time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little smoker for the money! Great little smoker for the money! It does a great job and has a very constant temperature. It's large enough that I was able to smoke four 10lb pork shoulders at one time, and small enough that you don't mind using it for a few burgers. My only recommendation is to buy the matching cover since rain and winter weather will damage the controller on top. I also use a disposable aluminum casserole pan to catch drippings on the rack under the meat. This does not seem to effect the smoke or cooking times, but does help keep the smoker a lot cleaner and ant free.

I elevated the smoker so I am not bending down to move food in and out but the control pad is too high then. The display is dim , you cannot have it in direct sunlight or even in bright indirect light. Maybe masterbuilt can apply a shroud or use a brighter led. Otherwise it is pleasure to use, no need to hang over it to adjust temperature just time the need for wood chips. I used advice from the internet and I still made a mess even though I lined pans with aluminum foil. Fyi, use heavy duty foil. I like the taste of smoked food and this masterbuilt does the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OUTSTANDING SMOKER OUTSTANDING smoker! Have only used 4 times but absolutely love it. I was very hesitant buying an electric smoker but am very glad I did. The smoker comes up to full heat at 275 in less than 30 min (as recommended in manual) and once it cooled back down to my cooking temp, it maintained that temp within +/- 2 degrees then entire time. Note: one day was 35-40 degrees with rain/wind and another day was 60 degrees. Awesome. After 4 uses, I now know that the chips last/smoke for about 2 hours+ without having to reload...and it is only a cup of chips! Also, I have received the best results by NOT soaking the chips first. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this smoker.

Don't buy this unless you're willing to commit to buying the "electric slow smoker" that attaches to it as well, Internet #203868163. This is a barely passable smoker without the slow smoker. The slow smoker is really a separate chip control box that generate at least three times more smoke that steadily lasts as long as five hours or so per fill from making chips smolder over a dedicated heating element with a tube arrangement that feeds smoke into the smoker proper from the side. Your smoker becomes an electric offset smoker with improved functionality as a hot smoker (more smoke) and completely functionality as a cold smoker. Without that smoker, you're stuck feeding this thing every half-hour, and when the smoker's heating element isn't on, smoke production suffers. With that add-on, your smoker becomes fully functional. You lose portability because once you bolt that thing on, you won't be moving it around much. Buy the 40-inch Masterbuilt cover to slip over the smoker and it's side-mounted add-on -- it isn't pretty, but it fits. I wish they'd tell you the naked truth when you buy this thing -- it's just minimally capable without the offset attachment.

Works great, held temperature in mid 30's F temperatures. Only thing that's a negative is there is no guides/information on how to smoke things in your smoker. The link on the Masterbuilt website goes to "Dadgum Good Recipes" but the recipes are very vague at best. I made some beef jerky for my smoker's maiden vogue. Looked up a recipe online not "Dadgum Good Recipes", the jerky turned out great but very smokey because I had no guide as to how to use the air damper which makes a big difference on what you are smoking. After a lot of research online I found a FB page specifically for people using the Masterbuilt electric smoker. I'm currently curing a pork butt shoulder for making my first ham.
