I am looking to buy my first smoker and was told I should get one that doesn't require you to open the door to add/refresh the wood chips.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in the 30 inch Digital Electric Smoker with Window and Remote Control. The side wood chip loader allows you conveniently add wood chips without opening the door. Every time you have to open the door to add wood chips on a smoker, you are releasing the internal heat which causes the smoking process to take longer.

Answer:
No you do not need to open the door to add wood chips. It has a try on the side you pull out, load the chips into and then turn to dump them into the tray all without needing to open the smoker.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in the Masterbuilt 30 in. Digital Electric Smoker. You may smoke as much meat in this unit at one time that will fit comfortably, leaving space around the sides for heat to distribute evenly throughout the cooking process. As a general guide, you could comfortably fit two 5-7 pound pork shoulders into this unit at one time.

Dont know about pork shoulder but have enough room to do two 8lb pork boston butts with bone. I did one and it takes about 18hrs to get the meat temp to 165degree at 230 degree smoker temp. Made great pulled pork

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 281 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Electric Smoker Assembly was easy. Very simple to use. Almost, set it and forget it. Can smoke a variety of meat and/or fish and vegetables. Would need the optional Masterbuilt cooking mat for the fish, vegetable items however. My first two trial runs (ribs and chicken) turned out great. The external temp and time remote, coupled with the internal meat temp probe makes this unit really easy to use and ensures food cooked to recommended temps for consumption. Can monitor, adjust settings at both the top of smoker or via the handheld remote. Adding wood chips is a breeze with the side loader. Clean up post use is easy and does not take long to accomplish. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Smoker Grill easy to assemble. Used it 3 times so far with great success. Its a very good value - Would recommend to all my friends July 20, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Broke after 1 year I really enjoyed using this smoker, especially cooking for friends & family. Produced great results w/ ribs, brisket, chicken, pork, etc. The problem is this - I bought my smoker July 2015, took really great care of it (cleaned after every use, stored in doors, etc.) Went to cook chicken wings for a large group before an NFL Sunday gathering in Oct 2016 and the smoker completely stopped working. I would expect the smoker to last much longer (especially considering the price) when receiving proper care... October 20, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worthless This product worked great! The first 2 times I used it. Then it started to turn off and quit working after an hour. Then after about 20 minutes. Now I can't get it to stay on for longer than 10 minutes. Considering you can't smoke anything in 10 minutes, this thing is absolutely worthless. I've tried everything from plugging it in in different places (even at a friends house) and its always the same. I might as well set this out on the curb. September 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by defective I have used this unit 1 time, and now the unit will not turn on. October 4, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Smokes great but did not last I purchased this as a gift for my husband. The electronic panel keeps shutting down and turning the unit off. The remote is useless. It says it's still on when it has shut itself off. We had it for one year and used it maybe 3-4 times. It was stored indoors. I did purchase the extended warranty for replacement. It's disappointing because it smokes great but the electronics seem to be junk. We will purchase a different brand. September 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great purchase for first timer! I wanted to learn how to smoke meats and this smoker is a great first starter! Easy to assemble and the instructions for cooking are easy! September 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Gets the job done Nice little oven really gets the job done convenient for small family that has taste for smoke meat !! August 9, 2016
