Do you have to open the door to add wood chips?

I am looking to buy my first smoker and was told I should get one that doesn't require you to open the door to add/refresh the wood chips.

wood chips are added to a pull out tray on the right side. pull out rotate so tray opening is up, drop in chips, push in and rotate 1/2 turn to empty in burner.

How many pounds of pork shoulder can be smoked at one time?

You could do (2) 8-9 lb. pork shoulders. And they are awesome!

Does it emit alot of smoke?

I ask, because I will be living in a condo that does not allow BBQing on the balcony. is there a vent that emits the smoke?

when smoking the first 2-3 hrs keep the smoke vent almost closed to contain the smoke while adding wood chips to the wood tray which is a pull out round tray that when you add wood, push in and turn 180 degrees to empty in smoke bin. after done with adding wood for smoking has finished you will open the vent a little and no smoke really if no wood is burning. This the best smoker I have used for the price. I give it 5 stars

what is the maximum distance (away from the smoker) that the remote can used?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This was a Christmas gift for my husband and it was a big hit! Used it for the first time a week... This was a Christmas gift for my husband and it was a big hit! Used it for the first time a week ago - smoked a pork shoulder that was delicious and we learned some things along the way for next time. It provided a great meal and a ton of leftovers to get creative with. Easy to set up, clean and store. Will get a cover for it, so we can leave it outside, but in the meantime, it's light enough to bring out from the basement. Next up....salmon, beef tenderloin, homemade bacon and another try at the pork shoulder.

I did quite a bit of research on what type of smoker to buy and decided since I was new to smoking this electric smoker would be a good purchase. It did not disappoint. Masterbuilt has a great reputation and I can see why. Easy to use and the digital remote control was a great idea. Easy to clean too. Not really sure why Masterbuilt put a window on this model as the window will get so dirty that you will not be able to see through it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mine went out on Thanksgiving after 5 times being used. Smoker did well when working but got read... Mine went out on Thanksgiving after 5 times being used. Smoker did well when working but got ready to smoke a large turkey and it got to 112 degrees and went out, control panel indicates it working but will not heat up. Called customer service and stayed on the line forever waiting to talk to someone, finally left my name and # and a brief description of problem, recording said a representative would call me. Its been over a month and no call. Total waste of money for unit, and sorry customer support. It will surprise me if this review is even posted.

The cooking temperature stayed consistent and the meats tasted amazing! I was skeptical at first with buying an electric grill. Not knowing how the flavor of the food would turn out, but I'm VERY pleased with everything!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not impressed I bought this smoker and used it only twice. After which the controller started acting up. The power will turn off for no reason and when you try and set it again it makes strange ticking sounds and fails to start. I have unplug it and try again. This has to be done about 5 or 6 times before it will stay on. I tried to return it but because it was used twice and food is involved I was told I could not return it. Then I contacted masterbuilt who sent me a new controller. Great! Except that did not fix the problem, same issue. I was told the problem was in the wiring.. long story short I'm stuck with a smoker that sort of works.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Electric Smoker Assembly was easy. Very simple to use. Almost, set it and forget it. Can smoke a variety of meat and/or fish and vegetables. Would need the optional Masterbuilt cooking mat for the fish, vegetable items however. My first two trial runs (ribs and chicken) turned out great. The external temp and time remote, coupled with the internal meat temp probe makes this unit really easy to use and ensures food cooked to recommended temps for consumption. Can monitor, adjust settings at both the top of smoker or via the handheld remote. Adding wood chips is a breeze with the side loader. Clean up post use is easy and does not take long to accomplish.
