I am looking to buy my first smoker and was told I should get one that doesn't require you to open the door to add/refresh the wood chips.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in the 30 inch Digital Electric Smoker with Window and Remote Control. The side wood chip loader allows you conveniently add wood chips without opening the door. Every time you have to open the door to add wood chips on a smoker, you are releasing the internal heat which causes the smoking process to take longer.

Answer:
No you do not need to open the door to add wood chips. It has a try on the side you pull out, load the chips into and then turn to dump them into the tray all without needing to open the smoker.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 261 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MasterBuilt Electric Smoker Generation 1 With Window This product was delivered in record time and without any damage. Very easy to install along with the stand that I purchased at same time. Even during the breakin period I had no smoke leaking from around the door seal. Have used for several months now and the only thing that I would like to see an improvement in is the distance that the remote signal can be received. December 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simply great!! Easy assembly, easy to understand directions and recipes; love it. May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awsome Smoker I read the instructions to the letter got it all set up and ready to smoke some meats and WOW it worked better than expected..... My first two items cooked were a couple of 6 pound Pork roast and I used a verity of the smoke ships and they come out just falling apart extremely juicy. I just put a Texas dry rub on them threw them on the rack and shoved that thermometer in their and let it go. I live in an apartment put the smoker on my balcony plenty of room and sat in the easy chair and kept an eye on it from my easy chair while watching the fights it doesn't get any better than that. It all worked outstanding the folks I gave some of the meat too said it was awesome that's why I had to make the second one. August 11, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Product not recommended - bad electronics After using this smoker a few times, the electronic control would starting shutting down when the internal temperature reached approximately 165 degrees. When attempting to re-start, the controls would doing nothing more than click or be non-responsive. I contacted Masterbuilt, purchased a replacement control unit and installed it. The same failure occurred again. After a few uses, the replacement control failed when the the internal temperature would reach approximately 165 degrees. While I normally do not purchase extended warranties but did so for this product (Thank goodness) When I called to make a claim, the agent was pleasant and professional. When asked the issue with the product and I explained the electronics failed, the agent immediately processed a full refund with no additional questions. I suspect the agent was aware of issues with the electronic controls. February 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 30 in with legs stainless case Have to install feet but heavy duty and wheels on back legs. Everything is high quality. Bluetooth actually worked flawlessly. Love the ability to add wood without opening door. Look out its hot! Love it and yes would say spend extra money for this unit. Electric 115v. Max 275 degrees. Had other units non stainless don't last long. February 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great smoker Everything I have made in this smoker has come out great and very user friendly. I liked it enough to purchase one for both my sons. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent Bought this as a gift for my husband and I use it more than he does! Perfect sitting on our side porch, and the integrated meat thermometer as well as the remote make smoking those long hours much easier. I just have to return to add a few wood chips now and then to keep it smoking and can get other things done. Everything is removable except the meat thermometer, so cleaning is a breeze, the stainless steel makes it better because a scrubbie can be used without hurting any finish. I also recommend getting the cover, it keeps all of the electrical components dry when stored outside. December 15, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Failure to launch Bought this smoker in July for my husband for Father's Day. Worked well for a while but now shuts off at random times. Tried a surge protector, no luck. Home Depot only provides a 90 day warranty. Will see if Masterbuilt will come through with anything. January 12, 2016
