I am looking to buy my first smoker and was told I should get one that doesn't require you to open the door to add/refresh the wood chips.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in the 30 inch Digital Electric Smoker with Window and Remote Control. The side wood chip loader allows you conveniently add wood chips without opening the door. Every time you have to open the door to add wood chips on a smoker, you are releasing the internal heat which causes the smoking process to take longer.

Answer:
No you do not need to open the door to add wood chips. It has a try on the side you pull out, load the chips into and then turn to dump them into the tray all without needing to open the smoker.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in the Masterbuilt 30 in. Digital Electric Smoker. You may smoke as much meat in this unit at one time that will fit comfortably, leaving space around the sides for heat to distribute evenly throughout the cooking process. As a general guide, you could comfortably fit two 5-7 pound pork shoulders into this unit at one time.

Dont know about pork shoulder but have enough room to do two 8lb pork boston butts with bone. I did one and it takes about 18hrs to get the meat temp to 165degree at 230 degree smoker temp. Made great pulled pork

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by What happened to the cooking manual? Bought the smoker as a gift for my parents. My Dad put it together, with out any issues. They both loved the appearance of the smoker. The issue was, there was no manual to give you an idea, on how long to smoke various meats. Since smoking is very different from grilling, they had to guess & pray that they didn't ruin the meats. However, they felt that the meats were tender and had great flavor. Needless to say, they are quite satisfied and will get lots of use out of it. I will look for a how to book, for smoking meats. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by i love it my smoker was the best buy iv gotten in along time. the quality is fenominal. i smoked ribs 4 the 1st time they were fantastic just like bbq pitmasters. my next thing is a briskit ill post on that also. go get a smoker u wont b dissapointed. June 22, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Avoid this smoker! There are several problems with this smoker. The first problem is that the temperature at the top of the smoker runs about 20-30 degrees above the bottom. This is an issue if you are trying to cook meat on each of the removable shelves. Also, the temperature is controlled by turning on and off the heating elements. The control mechanism has a pretty large dead band in that it won't kick on until you are 5-10 degrees below the set point and won't kick off until you are 5-10 degrees above the set point. And lastly, the smoke is generated by loading the wood chips directly above the heating elements. This results in the smoke generation being good as long as the heating element is on, but dropping off significantly when the heating element cycles off. I wouldn't recommend this smoker. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MasterBuilt Electric Smoker Generation 1 With Window This product was delivered in record time and without any damage. Very easy to install along with the stand that I purchased at same time. Even during the breakin period I had no smoke leaking from around the door seal. Have used for several months now and the only thing that I would like to see an improvement in is the distance that the remote signal can be received. December 21, 2015
