Answer:
Thank you for being a Masterbuilt customer! You will not turn off the propane tank once the chips ignite because you will need that heat source to maintain the cooking temperature inside the smoker.

Can this be used the same way? Can you use it as a Propane Smoker as well as charcoal the same way the 20050412 can be used? They both appear identical from the outside.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wow!!! Awesome I started out with a Brinkman Smoke'n grill and enjoyed it so much that I decided to upgrade. After Reading the reviews online about this smoker I decided to buy one. This thing is awesome! If I had to make a complaint it runs a little hot. Turned down to low with the vents open it still runs at 225... That's the coolest I can get it on a hot day. Right now I'm smoking some beef ribs and man do they look awesome!!!! Great product for the price!!! July 21, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Regulator Hose Broke on 2nd Use The only mechanical part on this smoker (propane regulator) broke the 2nd time I tried to use this smoker. I had a weak flame on high. Tried to rest regulator, but no luck after several tries. I know this is a cheaper unit but was expexting more than one use. May 8, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic Beginning Smoker I have had this for about a year. I am a fairly serious smoker- generally every single Saturday I have my smoker roaring for 8-12 hours. This smoker was my first serious entry into smoking, and BOY was it a hit. I can't say enough good things about it, the temp stayed fairly consistent and it did what it was supposed to do. Now my review is based on this being a sub $200 smoker, so obviously there are problems. You need to add a wood pan or your wood will combust. I took the water pan it came with and put it directly on the burner, which worked terrifically. I then put my own water pan on the bottommost rack. This was my only operational issue throughout the year I beat this puppy into submission. Onto the durability. One year of heavy, heavy use and she is still going. I did have some serious issues- the bottom around the burner is burned out, holes straight through. Probably a result of the pan on top of the burner, but other than the obvious structural damage I honestly haven't noticed issues in usage. Temp holds, propane works fine. For the vast majority of people who use this occasionally, it will last years. It is a terrific entry level smoker and I truly recommend it to any aspiring pitmaster or anyone who wants to get into the smoking game. March 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Good Unit-GREAT customer support Easy to assemble. I had a small problem. I could not keep tempter under 300 the first time I used it. I emailed Master built and they responded quickly saying the burner/regulator should be replaced. They sent one no charge and no hassle. It took about 15 minuets to replace and it now works great. My only negative is that wood chips catch fire quickly. I fixed the problem by replacing the wood chip tray wit an old cast iron skillet. July 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy transaction I recently purchased this smoker for my brother who lives in another state. I was having a difficult time ordering it on line as I am not very computer savvy. I ended up calling the store by his house and was helped by Lori at store #4032 customer service. She was the most helpful and friendliest person that I have dealt with on such purchases. If not for her I probably would have gotten frustrated and stopped trying to make the purchase. So this review is more to recognize Lori and her awesome help. I have no review on the smoker as for its with my brother but I hope it works as well as my similar smoker. Thanks again Lori!!!!!!!!! November 11, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Very good in the beginning This smoker works really well in the beginning but the internal metal parts do not hold up at all. We use it maybe once a week during warmer months (about 35-40 times). The outside components hold up well, we have had it for 2 years but the water pan, charcoal tray and entire bottom including the burner mount deteriorated and rusted out during the first year, Masterbuilt replaced the water pan and charcoal tray because we could prove it was within the first year of purchase but didn't last 6 months after that. The water never sits in the water pan, it always evaporates but for some reason holes form quickly in it. Within the 2 year mark the entire bottom of the smoker rusted out. It works well in the beginning but I think the water pan issues start a chain reaction with everything else, we keep it covered when its not being used and have built a small roof over it now but I am not sure if we will buy the same one again. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Highly dissatisfied Bought it online April 1. Came about two weeks later with a bent door that needed replacing. Month and a half later still no door. Called today and they said it was still being reviewed before they send a new door. Taking it back to store. May 16, 2015
