Customer Questions & Answers

When this defrosts will the food also defrost? Will my food stay frozen solid or will it also defrost some?

Asked by: Housewife
This model continually keeps frost from building up - that's why it is called "frost free" so your food will always stay frozen solid (assuming you have the temperature set to the suggested level in the owner's manual).

Why do all the images of this freezer show a basket when in fact your specifications say no baskets? Is there a basket or no basket?

Asked by: Anonymous
There is a pull out basket at the bottom of the freezer as seen in the photos.

15.8 cu. ft. Frost Free Upright Freezer in White is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 419.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst freezer ever. Not Maytag quality from years ago. We bought this freezer in 2011. It went completely out 11 months later. After two weeks of lost food and phone calls got brand new replacement. 9 months later the replacement freezer went out! New compressor and other parts. Worked fine without problems until today...3 years later...not working! Do not waste your money on this freezer. We hope to find a new one that will last!

It's now November 2016 and the freezer has quit working. Went on internet and tried all of fixes that could be done by homeowner. No go. We lost a lot of food. Less than 2 years before it failed! This review may not be characteristic of all Maytag freezers, but is a summary of our unfortunate experience with this model.

Repair person came out, freon leak which will require evaporation coil to be replaced at a cost of $470 plus. Purchase price was around $570. I will never recommend or purchase any Maytag (Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana,) product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed after 5 months We had this delivered and installed July 11, 2012. It froze from the center down after Christmas. It was packed with now thawed meat and berries I'd gotten through coops and harvesting. I pulled everything out and went on a mad canning/dehydrating spree with my BF while we unplugged this thing and let it totally thaw for 2 days. When we turned it on it seemed to be fine - now a month later we are going through it again - and since I bought the 4 year extended warranty I knew they'd repair it. They will - the repair guy will be here in a week :( So rapid canning and dehydrating will commence again...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Three months later the unit dies! We purchased this freezer in December after our previous freezer died and we lost $600 worth of frozen food. This morning I went downstairs and noticed that there was a puddle under the new freezer. The entire contents of the freezer have thawed! Fortunately, it is under warranty and the repairman just replaced a control for the automatic defrost cycle, which he said had malfunctioned. Once again I have lost the entire contents of my freezer! Extremely disappointed in the product but thrilled that i paid the extra $60 for the warranty that will at least repay me for $300 of the lost contents.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love it for the most part I was looking for a freezer that didn't have all the electronic stuff. The more electronics the more apt you are to have problems. I just wanted a bare bones freezer and this one fit the bill. I've had it for 2 1/2 yrs. It's quiet. My computer is only 10ft., as the crow flies 8ft. from the freezer and I can't hear it. My only fuss with this freezer is it goes through light bulbs. The durn things only last a month if we're lucky. We've tried other brands of bulbs but it doesn't matter. Suckers still blow. Outside of that not a problem. Personally I consider it a small price to pay. An extra $20 (on the pricey side) for a yrs. worth of bulbs is worth it. But I do hope they might fix that problem.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Died less than 3 years Bought brand new in 2012 died 2015 only lasted 3 years. I thought it might be the starter relay so I simply replaced it. Still nothing. The compressor was running but not cooling. Gave in and called a repair man, he said it was the compressor and not to bother repairing it. It was cheaper to buy a new unit. He suggested to call Maytag to see if they might help with some type of discount on a replacement. Even with the discount they offered it was still more expensive than I could find in a similar model on sale. I will not buy a Maytag product again. Even though this was made by Whirlpool, Maytag did not really stand by the product with their branding. .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stopped working properly after 6 months This was a great freezer for the first few months while it worked. After 6 months I noticed that the food didn't feel well frozen. I purchased a freezer thermometer and I noticed there was problem. At first I thought we might be blocking the airflow, but after taking 1/3 of the items out and looking at the airflow diagram in the manual that wasn't the problem. The manual says it's supposed to be at 0 deg F when set on "4". It's set higher than 4 and it's keeping the freezer at about 25 degrees. I'll never buy another Maytag product again. Also, be aware that Maytag is owned by Whirlpool, who also makes these brands (from Wikipedia): Whirlpool Maytag KitchenAid Jenn-Air Amana Roper Acros Estate Inglis Bauknecht Privileg Brastemp Consul Gladiator GarageWorks
