I was looking for a freezer that didn't have all the electronic stuff. The more electronics the more apt you are to have problems. I just wanted a bare bones freezer and this one fit the bill. I've had it for 2 1/2 yrs. It's quiet. My computer is only 10ft., as the crow flies 8ft. from the freezer and I can't hear it. My only fuss with this freezer is it goes through light bulbs. The durn things only last a month if we're lucky. We've tried other brands of bulbs but it doesn't matter. Suckers still blow. Outside of that not a problem. Personally I consider it a small price to pay. An extra $20 (on the pricey side) for a yrs. worth of bulbs is worth it. But I do hope they might fix that problem.

We had this delivered and installed July 11, 2012. It froze from the center down after Christmas. It was packed with now thawed meat and berries I'd gotten through coops and harvesting. I pulled everything out and went on a mad canning/dehydrating spree with my BF while we unplugged this thing and let it totally thaw for 2 days. When we turned it on it seemed to be fine - now a month later we are going through it again - and since I bought the 4 year extended warranty I knew they'd repair it. They will - the repair guy will be here in a week :( So rapid canning and dehydrating will commence again...

We purchased this freezer in December after our previous freezer died and we lost $600 worth of frozen food. This morning I went downstairs and noticed that there was a puddle under the new freezer. The entire contents of the freezer have thawed! Fortunately, it is under warranty and the repairman just replaced a control for the automatic defrost cycle, which he said had malfunctioned. Once again I have lost the entire contents of my freezer! Extremely disappointed in the product but thrilled that i paid the extra $60 for the warranty that will at least repay me for $300 of the lost contents.

We have had this freezer for less than 3 months. I went downstairs yesterday to get a box of popsicles, only to find a box of liquid. Everything in the freezer had defrosted! Thankfully we had purchased the warranty plan, although it is still under Maytag's original warranty. Repairman is coming next week. We'll see how that goes. Bought this to replace a freezer that was over 25 years old, it still worked great, but was not energy efficient...BIG mistake!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Rich Stopped working properly after 6 months
This was a great freezer for the first few months while it worked. After 6 months I noticed that the food didn't feel well frozen. I purchased a freezer thermometer and I noticed there was problem. At first I thought we might be blocking the airflow, but after taking 1/3 of the items out and looking at the airflow diagram in the manual that wasn't the problem. The manual says it's supposed to be at 0 deg F when set on "4". It's set higher than 4 and it's keeping the freezer at about 25 degrees. I'll never buy another Maytag product again. Also, be aware that Maytag is owned by Whirlpool, who also makes these brands (from Wikipedia):

This freezer quit cooling after 3 1/2 months. Everything in my freezer completely thawed. Maytag scheduled a repair after a long holiday weekend of waiting. The first repair person could not fix it due to the problem of "closed system repair" and the need of a specialty repair person for that. A second scheduled "all day repair" person is supposed to come out a full week and a half after losing everything in my freezer. Maytag refused to give me a refund or provide a new freezer. I will not be buying any Maytag appliance in the future.

This is a nice enough freezer when it is actually working. It failed after 5 months from the original purchase and I lost everything I had in it. They repaired it and replaced EVERY SINGLE PART of the interior.. I thought it was safe to fill it again. Here we are 6 months later and it failed again!! I only lost half of my meats this time, but when you purchase a freezer you expect it to last more than 5 or 6 months at a time. They offered me an extended warranty but I am afraid to put anything in it at this point. I have lost enough meats to pay for another freezer! I would not suggest anyone buying this product. I have had better luck with no name brands in the past and bought maytag because I thought that they were known for dependable products. Boy was I wrong!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Donna Great Freezer- once the bugs were fixed
Freezer came with 2 manufacturing defects, a connector was not seated and so the unit froze over in a couple of days and lost cooling. Light cover was crooked and left the light burning. We finally called for service and it came almost immediately and most efficiently found and fixed the problems. It would have been better if it had come to us without defects.
