I was looking for a freezer that didn't have all the electronic stuff. The more electronics the more apt you are to have problems. I just wanted a bare bones freezer and this one fit the bill. I've had it for 2 1/2 yrs. It's quiet. My computer is only 10ft., as the crow flies 8ft. from the freezer and I can't hear it. My only fuss with this freezer is it goes through light bulbs. The durn things only last a month if we're lucky. We've tried other brands of bulbs but it doesn't matter. Suckers still blow. Outside of that not a problem. Personally I consider it a small price to pay. An extra $20 (on the pricey side) for a yrs. worth of bulbs is worth it. But I do hope they might fix that problem.

Bought this freezer thinking it would be a nice replacement for my 20 year old Kenmore freezer. After 3 months, I noticed that there was no air flow; and everything was defrosting! Since I'm in the Heating and Air business, I emptied the freezer and pulled off the cover to the inside coil. It had ice built up so bad that I use a heat gun on it for 45 minutes. The problem is the contoller on the heater. I went to the parts house, only to be told that this is a major problem with this unit model. I had to buy the whole heater eliment which costed $54.00 plus my time. I modified the old one if I need it again, with a direct two poll switch so if I need to , I can manually turn on the defroster.

We've had this model for two years and have finally concluded that it just cannot cope with the summer heat and humidity in our northeast Arkansas garage.
I have a Lacrosse remote temperature and humidity sensor that alerts me whenever the freezer temperature rises above 29ºF. I can track the fluctuations in temperature, which mirror fluctuations in humidity. The last time we had to manually defrost the freezer, we were unable to get the internal temperature below 50ºF.
We finally gave up trying to make it work in the garage and moved it into our air conditioned house to a spot in the kitchen where it now registers -5.5ºF in 51% humidity.
We are resigned to the awkward solution of having it in the house in hot humid weather and moving it back to the garage when the weather turns cool and dry.
Had we known about the freezer's inability to cope with high humidity, we would have looked elsewhere.

We had this delivered and installed July 11, 2012. It froze from the center down after Christmas. It was packed with now thawed meat and berries I'd gotten through coops and harvesting. I pulled everything out and went on a mad canning/dehydrating spree with my BF while we unplugged this thing and let it totally thaw for 2 days. When we turned it on it seemed to be fine - now a month later we are going through it again - and since I bought the 4 year extended warranty I knew they'd repair it. They will - the repair guy will be here in a week :( So rapid canning and dehydrating will commence again...

Bought this in April 2014 and in May 2015 we lost an entire freezer worth of stuff. No big deal things happen. Called Maytag and they want $289 to fix it. Why would I pay over half the cost of the fridge to fix something that gets you 1 month past the warranty and then you have to buy one again. Wont be buying any Maytag products anytime soon.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by maggie Three months later the unit dies!
We purchased this freezer in December after our previous freezer died and we lost $600 worth of frozen food. This morning I went downstairs and noticed that there was a puddle under the new freezer. The entire contents of the freezer have thawed! Fortunately, it is under warranty and the repairman just replaced a control for the automatic defrost cycle, which he said had malfunctioned. Once again I have lost the entire contents of my freezer! Extremely disappointed in the product but thrilled that i paid the extra $60 for the warranty that will at least repay me for $300 of the lost contents.

We have had this freezer for about 1 year now and have lost our food several times due to the door not staying shut. We bought a new one last week, different maker.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Rich Stopped working properly after 6 months
This was a great freezer for the first few months while it worked. After 6 months I noticed that the food didn't feel well frozen. I purchased a freezer thermometer and I noticed there was problem. At first I thought we might be blocking the airflow, but after taking 1/3 of the items out and looking at the airflow diagram in the manual that wasn't the problem. The manual says it's supposed to be at 0 deg F when set on "4". It's set higher than 4 and it's keeping the freezer at about 25 degrees. I'll never buy another Maytag product again. Also, be aware that Maytag is owned by Whirlpool, who also makes these brands (from Wikipedia):
