My broken compactor is 24 inches from back to front of unit box. Is the 25" depth the same?

Trying to determine if replacing a GE profile with the Maytag will result in the unit sticking out an inch and the foot pedal sticking out an additional inch. My current appliance depth says it's 24" and the main "box" fits perfectly flush with the foot pedal sticking out
another inch. How deep is this unit from the back to the front of the foot switch?

Answer:
PJ,
The depth of this Maytag 15" Built In Trash Compactor is 24" for the cabinet. The 25" measurement would include the foot pedal. It should fit fine in a 24" cutout space that you mentioned. Thank you for viewing this Maytag home appliance.

The footpad-when pressed- barely opens the drawer on brand new Maytag trash compactor

I have had this Maytag trash compactor for a week and thought because it is new--figured it would loosen up so to speak. The manual states when foot pad is pressed it will open from 3-6"....depending on how full it is. Well-mine barley opens 1-2"...when empty....any ideas as to why. I figured the whole idea of a foot pad is so you don't have to use your hands...but with only a 1- 2 inch opening i still do have to use my hands--and when hands are full that defeats the purpose.
Thanks for any help

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 41 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Tough as nails! I've owned this compactor for over 10 years and it has been a warrior. We used it every day and it performed like a champ. After 10 years of faithful service, and heavy use, it's finally time to replace it. I can honestly say we got our monies worth out of this unit. January 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best crush for the money I recommend a compactor to any and all. I had one before and when I moved I had to have another. I did my research and this one had the best crush capacity of any that I could find. I have to pay per bag of trash at the transferstation so to get more into one bag saves money and trips. Who needs an open trash basket that can smell or have the dog tip over to get into, this is clean, practical and efficient. I can't be happier. Though when we got it it didn't work properly, the service was prompt and pleasant and was fixed in a matter of minutes, a plug had probably come loose in shipping. Works like a champ and I wouldn't have anything else. October 23, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice compactor Very nice compactor for the price. The closing latch needs a bit work and I wished the ram would extend further into the bin. Only time will tell if the closing latch will hold up over time. After researching compactors for a week this one was without a doubt the one for me even after looking at compactors that were twice the cost. It should be noted that during my research I found that the same frame and internals is used under multiple brands. The only differance is minor features and the lipstick. You can prove this to yourself by downloading the operators manual. It is the same manual except for the brand name. November 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks Great and Works Much Better Than Expected Purchased unit as replacement for broken 7 year old JennAir compactor. Maytag compactor was very easy to install and compacted trash as expected, The Solid Pack feature I believed to be a gimmick but when my wife and I started using the Solid Pack feature, we quickly found that we could fit much more refuse into a single bag, reducing the number of compactor take-out-the-garbage/rebag cycles by half or more. We found that the odor reduction feature is a little noisy and not really useful, so we turned it off using the front panel switch . Overall, a great value for a compactor at this price that looks great and works extremely well. July 4, 2011
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good value I bought this compactor to replace an expensive solid stainless steel compactor that only lasted 3 years. The compactor door is very light, and with the black plastic pieces it is not as attractive as the much pricier compactors. I bought this for the value and the reputation of Whirlpool. It works great. And I love the air filter feature on this model. I would buy it again. Home Depot delivered this to my kitchen for no extra fee. I had to open the box and plug it in which was very easy, and a bargain compared to the department store's charge for delivery and installation. December 18, 2010
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality I bought this to replace a GE compactor that was nothing but trouble from the day I got it until the day it finally failed completely. This Maytag unit is of far better design and quality. I especially like the "Solid" compacting option, which holds the trash compactor in the down position, which increases the capacity. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I haven't had it long enough to talk about reliability, but based on what I have seen so far I am very happy with the unit. I have always had bad luck with compactors and swore I'd never get another one. However, eventually I was worn down by my wife and she purchased the Maytag. It seems relatively well made, in a week we now use about 1/3rd the containers/barrels in taking our trash to the curb. I like the plastic bags, haven't had any problems with tearing as I have read in other posts. Overall I am pretty satisfied with the unit. Only time will tell if it will stand up to prolonged use and mechanical compression that caused past failures etc. January 10, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Compactor, little loud The house had a trash compactor when we moved in and we figured we would replace it with one that matches the rest of the appliances we purchased. Looks great, simple to work and install. It is louder than I expected, same noise level as the 10 year old one we replaced. The latch when closing the device is loud also. July 21, 2014
