The installation manual, which can be found online, gives detailed instructions on how to prepare the upper cabinet and the vent pipe. I was completely unfamiliar with any of this, but when the installers came with the microwave they said I did a good job of preparing the cabinet and vent pipe. I just followed the directions. Not too difficult, but if you don't work with tools much I would enlist someone who does. Also, the template to cut the upper cabinet comes full size with the microwave. We needed to do it in advance so I printed it out on multiple pages and taped them together. That worked fine. Read Less

Answer:
My understanding is that is simply the installation fee, if you want them to install it. If you are going to install it yourself, you do not need to pay that fee. It will be delivered, but not installed. I asked the online help person this question, and was told it is simply an installation fee.

It was necessary to remove the brackets and mounting bits behind the OLD microwave OTR we were replacing. Is it possible that you have been quoted the HD installation service, to provide additional installation SERVICES rather than make you go to the trouble of measuring, drilling, lifting, etc etc. to translate your "box on the floor" delivered microwave into an installed, working product over your stove.
Call your HD and see what they say. My opinion..... All the words relating to "Parts" are marketing persuasion, and the line that says " M922 OTR INSTALL" says it all. Read Less

Yes, it comes with a small mount to attach the bottom on the unit. You will need an upper cabinet to attach the top. If you don't have a cabinet and your handy, I'm thinking you could fabricate an upper mount bracket.

Since the microwave dimensions indicate a top-to-bottom height of 16 1/4 inches, that would indicate clearance from the microwave bottom to the range top of 13 3/4 inches. That seems a bit close to me, The clearance between my new Maytag (door) and my stove top is 17 inches. There does not appear to be a mandatory clearance dimension in the installation manual document. Using the integrated fan whenever you have the stove top working is always a good idea. Read Less

Answer:
I am not exactly sure. I can tell you that mine is just over 18 inches from the stove.
My wife said that one day when she and her mom were doing some heavy cooking the fan automatically kicked in. You would have to check that out as I cannot confirm it, it has never happened to me. Also I had the HomeDepot guys install it.....for the price it was really worth it.
Hope that helps.

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 110 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Microwave for the new kitchen The installation instructions were easy to read and installation was easy. We had the microwave ready to operate within 30 minutes of unpacking. The operating instructions were simple and the enclosed laminated guide made it a joy to use. September 16, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice looking Maytag microwave and beautiful design inside and out. Had it for 2 months so far. Great looking and installed easily with existing hardware from last unit. Like the stainless steel interior. June 12, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Really big, not as powerful, and installation issues I ordered this microwave to replace an older model microwave of the same type. (only because the handle broke and I would have paid $140 to replace the entire door so I bought a new one instead). I chose this model because it has a rectangular tray that goes back and forth vs. a round tray that spins. What I found first is that it is several inches bigger then the one I had, and so it was quite a project to finally get it installed. The first thing I did was try popcorn in my Orville Redenbacher microwave popper. It takes almost 1.5 minutes more in this microwave then my old one which tells me it's simply not as powerful. I like the stainless inside, and the sensor feature. Several folks have commented on the vent fan being loud, and this is very true. It is very loud on all settings. So far I am happy with it but we've not had it very long. It does the basics and it matches the rest of my Maytag appliances. January 7, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by and great features! I was looking for the biggest quality microwave I could afford. I am so happy with size & features! September 17, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to Use Maytag appliances are my first choice. My father was a lonely Maytag repairman, so I grew up with Maytags in my home. When I bought this microwave I already knew I would find satisfaction. It is easy to use--I haven't even read the manual. I like the wideglide tray and the space inside. It looks nice with my other white appliances. September 19, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Good It only work for 6 months and Im stuck with a not working microwave, with a bunch of emails and no ways to fix or getting another microwave August 17, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed I paid extra money to get a product that had all of the features I wanted only to find there is no grid on in room exhaust. The exhaust vents upward toward the cabinet door fronts above the microwave. The problem is there are large uncovered holes in the exhaust system allowing ANYTHING from the cabinets above to fall in the holes. I have lost several items and had to get tongs to get them out. Since I purchased the microwave I have looked at several similar microwaves and all have a grid on them. It would be great if Maytag would make an after production grid that a consumer could add to the microwave. October 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great microwave! Installed it 2 months ago and love it. Love the tray movement, which moves a rectangular dish inside the micro while it is heating (much better than the old rotary turntables). Great meat thawing cycle, does not cook the meat, just thaws it. Would like a little brighter light underneath, pointing down at the rangetop. But we are very happy with it. May 30, 2015
