I bought this freezer as a replacement for my 31 year old Kenmore which finally died. All Kenmore had was one with digital controls. Nope - that's not for me. Frigidaire had a comparable model, but the temp control was on the bottom BACK of the freezer. How stupid is that? All I wanted was a big white box that freezes food and keeps it at a constant temp. And that's exactly what I got with this Maytag. Nice features - adjustable shelves on the door and interior. Yes, the motor is a little noisier than my old freezer and it does indeed make some weird noises, but hey, if it keeps my food frozen, then I don't care. Home Depot's delivery service arrived right when they said they would and they changed the swing of the door with no problem. All in all, after 3 months I am pleased. I know it won't last as long as my old Kenmore, but if it makes it at least 5 years then I'll be happy.

I conducted hours of research and read hundreds of reviews on many brands, types and models. This Maytag upright fit my bill perfectly. I personally wish merchants would request reviews at a minimum of 6 months post-purchase so as to make the reviews more than just the initial impression. Nonetheless, I bought mine online about a month ago and this model was on sale and I was very pleased with the price I paid. One of the features I was looking for was a reversible door. Most freezers have the door handle on the left, I needed mine to open from the right due to the location I had selected in my garage. Others have made mention of the noise it makes. The motor hum from mine is not even remotely offensive, and due to being in my garage, that wouldn't be a huge issue even it was a bit louder. The delivery team was also excellent. They called the day before and within an hour of coming out to deliver the freezer. They used great care in movement and took the time to level the unit once it was in it's final location. Additionally, I wanted to have the door reversed and I thought perhaps this part might be on me. However, I asked them about it and they gladly spent the extra 15-20 minutes to reverse the door for me. Once they switched the door, I checked the fit and closing of the door before they left. It closed perfectly and had that strong vacuum seal to it when closing. Also, there was no need to do anything with the door switch for the light after reversing the door...it still works fine with the door reversed. I like the textured finish over smooth white surface and the rounded top on the door adds an additional attractive feature IMO. It is quite spacious inside and the layout of shelves is fine. I use the large basket at the bottom to store most of my frozen garden veggies. Most importantly, I have already compared the power usage versus my 40 yr old 25 cu ft Unico chest freezer and the reduced kilowatt usage is quite noticeable. To top it off, my local power company has been offering a $50 recycling credit for any customer that turns in their old inefficient appliance and upgrades to a new energy saving unit. They even came out to haul off my old heavy freezer at no cost...sweet deal all the way around! Again, I'm quite pleased and the only thing now is to see how the unit holds up over time...very impressed so far!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Handleonthelaw You should read this if you have the door reversed!
When they delivered my freezer I asked them to reverse the door (open right to left) which they were happy to accommodate. Days later I noticed the @ the very top of the lining I could see into
the freezer and the light would remain on. For the next couple of days I would peel back the lining when the door was securely close and see the light remained on. I called Maytag and when the service technician came out I closed the garage door and he could see the light on as well when the door was closed. He found the issue. When you reverse the door you also have to âreverse the switchâ that the corner part of the door pushes into to make 100% contact. Works awesome and for the money I donât
think you can find a better deal. Very happy with the freezer and very happy with Maytag service to come out and fix the issue.

Shelves set up so the freezer will hold a large volume of foodstuffs. Upright takes up minimal space in the garage. Sound when running is at a reasonable level.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by JANO 2 BUY OR NOT 2 BUY? ...THAT IS THE QUESTION.
Well, you asked for my review. Here goes.
SIZE...My old freezer is a 12 cu ft.... so HAPPY day! more storage area :-)
FROST FREE...Oh so nice. Don't be cheap. Divvy up and pay extra for that. It's 2014. You can thank me later.
LIGHT ON THE INSIDE...Don't laugh. Finally decided to upgrade my 25 year old Kenmore. Never had an interior light....but hey, It's still running and being passed on to my daughter.
NO LOCK ON THE DOOR...Much to my surprise but not a biggie. The old Kenmore had one so I assumed the new one had one. Just about all know how to break down the word "assume". Don't do it.
NO ROLLER WHEELS ON THE BOTTOM...For starters, It's 2014! Where are the freakin' wheels?! I consider this a Biggie and yes, I just assumed new freezers all had wheels now. There I go assuming again. Told the delivery man, "I have already moved the old freezer and calculated the dimensions of the area. You can just roll the new freezer in." He politely said, "There are no wheels, freezers don't have wheels." He had been delivery appliances for 30 years, so who was I to question him on that one. So I pulled out the manual on the freezer and read that some models had wheels. Now I am really confused.
VALUE...Great price from Home Depot because it was a special buy deal.
QUALITY...Only time will tell. Ask me again in 15 to 20 years. I chose the Maytag over the Frigidaire because of the Maytag name. The Frigidaire was less expensive. I called the Maytag hot line to ask about the space allowances. Just a little tip here...I could have just clicked on the little pdf file and read the owner's manual before I wasted their time and mine on the phone call. Customer rep. was very polite and told me, "Thank you for calling Whirlpool." I am confused again.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY...I dunno. It does have a little blue sticker on the door, so I will take their word on that.
