A lot of people dislike top loading washers because they're old-school, but they're also solid and reliable. A lot of family members warned us against the dangers of the side loaders (they leak), and we were happy to get this washer for way cheaper than a lot of the more modern washers. I like the simple design of the washer -- lately there have been some machines with a myriad of settings that I think it all just becomes too much. This washer is very user friendly and has many settings and options, just not so many that you're lost trying to figure out what to do. It also lights in certain places depending on what part of the cycle you're on, so it's plenty modern. The negatives are that this guy and it's dryer counterpart make some very weird noises and it's pretty load. My husband and I can hear it all the way down the basement when we're on the first floor. Also, it uses a lot more water than the side loaders, which is a bummer.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by SuzyQ Not what I was hoping for
I was hoping this was more like my old agitation-style washer from Maytag that lasted for 24 years. Unfortunately, it is not. As a "high-efficiency" washer, it uses a very small amount of water and a different kind of agitation. There is no way to control the water level, which is generally very low, with not enough water to clean a full load. If I set it on "heavy" soil level, it is really hard on the clothes, causing some tears in the fabric if the fabric is delicate. I was trying to save money by purchasing this washer, but in the long run I think it will cost me more, because I will probably replace it in a few years with something better.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by gabbailjio Weird noises but excellent
This was so lightweight that I could easily move it on my own, and I am a whopping 130 pounds. It is a really nice modern looking machine. It makes some very awkward noises during the entire cycle, but they are not loud to me. Its not noticeable if you are in other rooms of the house. I would describe it as clicking noises, and popping noises. It appears normal. It washes the clothes very well with little water, and the clothes smell like my detergent now which is great. I love the washer, its my first brand new washer and its amazing! I got a really good deal on it too. It was less than 300 dollars at the time.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by TOM My Maytag 3.6 works best on clean washer with afresh ,Give you plenty of WATER. I do not know if it Hurts the washer or not but I don't CARE, The only way I can CLEAN MY CLOTHES. IF you got the MATCHING DRYER be CAREFUL AND NOT PUT ON HIGH IT WILL BURN THE IN SIDE OF YOUR DRYER. IF LEFT ON FOR A LONG TIME.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Sadie I wanted to love this washer but...
I read hundreds of reviews before ordering this washer. I have a Maytag dryer I've been happy with for 8 years so I thought this washer was a good choice at the price point and I liked the large stainless tub.
On installation my husband and I noticed immediately that the new machine was much lighter than our former washer, but didn't think much of this. Until I did my very first load, sheets and towels, which I carefully arranged in the tub like always, and selected the "bulky items (sheets)" setting. The washer was loud and got off balance quickly, thumping and jumping all over the basement. Even my dog was alarmed at the racket.
When the cycle finished, the sheets and towels also came out of the machine dripping wet, I had to hang them on a line before I could even put them in dryer...thought maybe it was just the sheets and towels and a regular wash load would be better.
I did another, lighter load of clothing, and even after the spin cycle, my clothes came out dripping wet and a sweater I've washed a bunch of times in my former machine had basically disintegrated in the load, leaving fuzzy clumps all over the wet laundry.
In short, I'm really disappointed in this washer and had much higher hopes for it based on other reviews. Every single load I've done has had an issue. I am not hard to please, I just wanted a basic washer that performs reliably...this machine is loud, wobbly, can't handle basic household items (sheets and towels??) and leaves your clothes mangled and wet.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PamnHouston Great product for the price
Once I got used to how 'high efficiency' washers actually work, all was well. You have to pay attention to your detergent use. My suggestion is to use the pods. one for light loads, 2 for larger. Maytag is a very reliable, dependable product.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Neveragain worst washer ever
The water does not cover the clothes in the wash cycle. It makes horrendous noises during the cycle and clothes come out with a residue that two rinses did not remove. I would never recommend this washer. and I am going to return it.
