Answer:
It depends on what part of the cycle it is in. If you open the lid while it is filling with water, everything stops. The lid locks during the spin cycle and you have to hit the pause button to stop it and let it unlock.

Answer:
As the washer goes through it's cycles, you will see a green light in the top panel and then it will change to a red light toward the spin cycle. When the light is green, the lid can be opened and the machine parts will stop moving. When the light is red, the lid cannot be open.

Answer:
It does lock when in use BUT it does have a "pause" button that allows you to halt what it is doing which unlocks the lid so you can open it. Depending on where it is in the cycle, it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes for it to pause though and unlock the lid.

Be prepared for a lot of strange noises you've never heard before. I actually called Maytag and they "listened" to my new machine over the phone and said "yep, that's normal". These are direct drive noises. Do the laundry when no one is home !

During the first week or so, when I first used the washing machine, the noises the machine made/makes are like no other washing machine I've ever had. Still, the machine is working well after more than six months, still making its unique sounds, and still doing a good job.

High pitched noises around the hoses may relate to your home's water pressure. Banging or wobbling noises may relate to the washer being unlevel or the load being uneven. Metallic grinding noises are pretty much not normal.

We have had this machine for over a month, and while it can be a little unsetting at times to hear the clicks and pops, all these noises appear to be normal for this unit. There are water valves, door locks and such that click open and shut throughout the cycles. We have had NO issues with the machine.

If you want to wash large items like bedspreads, it is possible. But I found out that I should only put that one item in during that cycle.... and make sure to evenly distribute the weight around the entire machine.

Yes. I have a queen and it washed it just fine. I ONLY had the bed spread in the wash and I used the bulky sheets cycle.
Next time I'll try it with one of the sheets to test its limits, but for now, the bed spread pretty much filled the machine.

Consideringpurchase,
This washer does have a very large capacity, although the decision will ultimately depend on the bulkiness of the comforter. As a general rule you can wash the comforter as long as it will fit easily into the wash tub while allowing enough room for it to move freely throughout the wash cycle. Thank you.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3893 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What a pleasant surprise! I love this washer !! Because it had been 21 years since I had to buy a new one I wasn't aware that a top loader could be as efficient as the "new" side washers which was all I ever saw any more. I save a lot of water and soap etc. The price was unbeatable. I didn't want or need all the bells and whistles with the more expensive models but I still got plenty of options. Clothes come out really clean. The spin cycle works really well and that saves a lot of time and electricity when drying. August 30, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't last long! We had this washer for less than 3 years before it broke. While it WAS working, the wash cycle took well over an hour. September 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love This Washer! This is the first HE washer I've owned, and I'm thrilled with the ease of use, size of the barrel, and water efficiency. Can't believe I didn't make the switch sooner. September 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 2 complaints, but overall OK. The washer is quiet, and works well. The only complaints I have is that it doesn't fill with enough water for a good soak, nor do I think it agitates enough to get the top clothes clean. I held down the door button so I could see the washer work and noticed that there was only a small amount of water in the machine. I know it's a water saving machine, but even on the "bulky sheets" or "deep water" cycle the water level is still low. I wish there was a way to override this feature. The clothes do seem to come out clean, but after 10 minutes of washing, I shouldn't come back to see the same underwear on the top of the pile. There needs to be more movement from the center agitator. You know, REALLY mix and turn the clothes! August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good so far Have had the unit for a month and works well so far. It is quieter than the HE front-loader that it replaced. We bought it on sale, I doubt I'd pay full price, but definitely a decent washer. September 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Maytag washer Washer works well so far. Water level is determined by a sensor of the load. It has only one manual water level option, which is full; I would prefer to have more choices for that setting. September 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A good replacement Our new washing machines is very basic but has all the features we need. We had to replace a 16 year old Maytag because parts were no longer available - the old dryer is still going just fine. August 30, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Maytag top load washer Not as efficient as front load models. For the space the washer takes up and the size of the loads it can handle I am disappointed. September 1, 2016
