Answer:
Jeannie,
This cooktop does not have a downdraft. If you wanted to use and exhaust venting system with this cooktop you would need to install one behind the cooktop or a range hood or over the range microwave above it. If you are wanting a cooktop with a venting system installed, then you would want to search for a downdraft cooktop. Thank you for viewing this Maytag home appliance.

It is not hard at all. Pay attention when removing the old one. MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF! ALL OFF TURN A BURNER ON AFTER U TURN IT OFF MAKES SURE ITS OFF! There is a little box under the cabinet after turning the power off (did I mention that) Unscrew the plate off the box, three wires hot neg and ground with caps on wm un do em remove old cooktop. IF you paid attention and got the right size you still could hva eto boar some out to make it go down just right but still as far as the wiring its pretty simple. Replace the caps over the connections you ve made screw the plate back on, tighten the safety nut where the wires go in and turn the power back on and turn on a burner one burner at a time auntil all 4 are on full blast and make sure no breaker trips. If you get two or three burners on and the breaker trips. STOP AND Call a professional electrician. If all four burners ar eon high for atleast 5 10 minutes you succeeded and with this maytag model you likely will not have that problem.. The main keys are make sure the power is off and no power is stored in the lines. pay attention to what your unscrewing and screw the new one on the same way. And then test what you ve done. Some people try to add fancy glass cooktops to old wiring and that is going to cause breakers to trip because they are not desinged for the higher current needed. Again if your replacing a coil with a coil, you should have no problems at all GOOD LUCK!!! Read Less

Answer:
Big-E,
This electric cooktop is not that hard to install. The cooktop drops into the cutout on the countertop, then is hardwired into the existing electrical wires. However, I would suggest a qualified licensed electrician to verify the installation and complete the process. You can also view the installation guide or call the Maytag/Home Depot Hotline for more details. 877.461.3376

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This Cooktop has great features We love this Electric Cooktop. The drip pans are easy to remove and clean. It is efficient and heats up quickly, no waiting. It looks very nice as well. June 3, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not good for me!! The finish on the cooktop is horrid to clean. It streaks and always looks dirty. I have tried all the suggested uses to clean but none work for me. I am going to replace the stovetop, I am tired of spending so much time rubbing the streaks out. January 11, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by performance Bought this a year or so ago,,,fits well for the intent September 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick and easy upgrade! Bought as a replacement for an original 1975 harvest gold cooktop. Perfect upgrade for little investment. Could have gone with one of those expensive flat cooktops but given the age of the home I didn't want to chance having to get an electrician in to re-wire things to allow for such an upgrade. This was an easy upgrade! May 30, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Fit & Doesn't Trip Breakers in trailers!! If you live in a trailer or an older home and are replacing your cooktop first thing about amps and your current wiring. I have found if you add a fancy smooth top electric cooktop you'll likely have to upgrade the breaker. So if you are replacing a cooktop in the said above types of home this is your simpliest and most economical. Plus, it is three wires to hook it up and a couple of screws to tighten to hokup as it comes with cord attached already, it is really quite simple to wire into the little box you have under the counter. Just watch how you unwire the old one. TURN OFF POWER all power and turn a burner on before unhooking your old one MAKE SURE ALL POWER IS OUT OF THE LINES THIS IS 220 VOLTS!. Even though it is 220 as long as you turn off the power and use a flash light and tighten everything up, this very much do it yourself. DONT TURN THE POWER BACK ON UNTIL YOU ARE DONE! THis particular model is basic simple and serves the purpose well. I recently replaced 2 rental homes with these and with matching black refrigerators and dishwashers (all basic models but matching) and also found for a great price at the home depot, both kitchens allthough 15 years old look FABULOUS! Stainless steel collects fingerprints and I find the black to really be the most attractive! March 10, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great buy bought the top to use in canning for the basement. perfect fit and easy to install. always thought maytag had top of the line products.thank you maytag for continuing to make quality products November 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Burners heat really fast...glad I bought it. I was a little doubtful about purchasing this cooktop. I had been using a GE electric cooktop for almost 40 years...it never gave me any trouble. Remodeling the kitchen I needed a different color, preferably white with 4 coils....Maytag gave me the size I wanted and was the most attractive online. both in appearance and in price. After several months of use, I am well satisfied with its performance AND it is much easier to clean than my GE was for all those years. December 1, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product for the price We had a Maytag cooktop for several years and when it was time to replace it was no problem having another Maytag. This one is designed very much like our previous one, I like it that it that the knobs are lined up one the side and easier to clean. I don't like it that there are no numbers on the knobs so now I have to guess with the cooking. Maytag did not have any with numbers so I replaced the knobs with a universal knob and now I am satisfied. December 29, 2012
