Answer:
Prospectivebuyer,
You can remove the ice maker on this bottom freezer refrigerator. It does come factory installed, so it is not possible to order without. But, whether the ice maker is installed or not, does not affect the performance of the refrigerator. Thank you for viewing this Maytag bottom freezer refrigerator.

Are instructions included on how to change door opening directions?

Once installed how many hours will it take for it to be fully operational to fill with frozen foods etc?

Answer:
Our black one is textured kinda like vinyl or naugahyde. Ours was delivered while I was at work, so my wife accepted it. The delivery guys brought it in and hooked it up. I believe it came with door change instructions. Although they are not hard to do. Ours requires a philips and a torx screwdriver. It was full and cold when I got home. Sorry I can't be of more help.

How far from the wall does the right side of this refrigerator need to be in order to open the doors wide enough to remove the shelves for cleaning?

The opening in my kitchen is 36 inches wide between the counter and a solid wall. The wall is to the right of the refrigerator. I realize that I could change the direction of the door swing but for convenience sake, I would like the door to swing from right to left.

Answer:
Judy,
the door swing is factory set to open from left to right with the hinges on the right side. Having 36" in width should be adequate to be able to open the doors enough to put the shelving out. Thank you for viewing this Maytag home appliance.

Customer Reviews

30 in. W 18.5 cu. ft. Bottom Freezer Refrigerator in White-DISCONTINUED is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 358.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Value The refrigerator much larger than I anticipated since I was not able to see it in my local store. The freezer offers a lot of efficient storage space. The door bins are easy to remove. The ice maker is loud enough to startle someone watching tv in the next room. Hopefully we will get used to this. The refrigerator did take nearly a full day to cool down but seems to be maintaining its temperature. The freezer cooled down within an hour. This refrigerator has an excellent set of features for the money. I am glad that I didn't buy a more expensive model. Since the website did not show interior photos of the freezer, I took some and uploaded them. I hope they are helpful

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value for price Read reviews on so many refrigerators! This one turned out to be a great pick. I didn't find the review that there was an "odor" that couldn't be removed held up - per instructions I immediately washed with mild dish soap - gone for good. Also do not find it to be noisy at all. But it's in a basement rec room and we're not there as much, say , as in our kitchen. Didn't want the ice maker (basement - water risk) and instructions for removing it were a cinch. Like the choice of a rounded door (great feature) since we set ours up close to a wall. Overall what we expected and we are very happy with the purchase (we've had it about a month now.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best purchase I ever made I am very pleased with this refrigerator ! I love the bottom freezer. You can tell the good quality of this product when you open the fridge door, it is heavy. Love the light also in the freezer comp. This refrigerator is quiet as well as my old refrigerator. I would definately recommend this to someone else as it was recommended to me by a friend. I almost bought one at sears for hundred dollars more which in reality is the same refrigerator, made by Whirlpool as this one is. Drivers were very helpful , courteous and very careful when delivering !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very nice fridge for the money. We purchased this fridge because it was the only one in our price range with a bottom freezer, but have come to really like it. I like the room in the doors for food and beverages, and the ability to move those shelves is great. Moving them is very easy, and we do it very often as we change what items we are storing. The drawers and shelves in the main part of the fridge are also easy to move, and the bottom storage drawers with humidity controls work very well to keep fresh fruits and vegetables looking good and tasting great. We haven't hooked the ice maker up, so I cannot comment on that feature. The unit is very quiet, though we have only had it for about 1.5 months, so that may change as the unit ages.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice fridge for the value This fridge has lots of space within! I love that both compartments have lights and separate thermostat settings (everything is cooled just right). The drawer in the freezer compartment could be better, but it does the job well enough. I do like that you could take it out to clean underneath if something should happen to leak. The fridge is a little awkward for trying to fit tall items without re-arranging and the top shelf then only becomes good enough for short items, but you can fit a 12 pack soda box under the deli drawer. The good news is, the door shelves & glass shelves are easily re-configurable; within a few minutes, you could have a new fridge layout. The ice maker works great. My only wish is that it came in a glossy, smooth black finish rather than a textured finish. Nice mid-range refrigerator, especially if you just don't want a standard freezer on top fridge. Don't forget to wipe the surfaces inside the fridge and freezer compartments down before using and if you don't hook up the ice maker immediately, lift the arm to the OFF position so it's not running without a water supply, otherwise it makes a lot of noise. The only noise I hear is when the water fills up and when the ice drops. (like someone turned on a hose quickly and later rolled yahtzee dice) I've only had the fridge a little over 2 weeks at the time of this review. I've also included 2 photos of the freezer since there is a lack of photos for this fridge, 1 is the whole freezer and how much space there is, the other shows the track on one side. The fridge photo is so you could see my config and how certain things fit within (gives a good feel for the interior size/space)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This refrigerator is superb! I've had this refrigerator for about a month now and man do I tell you how smoothe it runs, sometimes I forgot its even running and I have to go and check to see if its on. It's very spacious and I love the fact that its at eye level and I can see what's in my frigde! The freezer also works well, everything stays nice and frozen even at level 5. My ice maker is not installed so I can't comment on that. Overall I'm pleased with this refrigerator! Great buy! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my New MAYTAG Love my new Maytag! Great size for me. Love the adjustable shelves. Big decision for me since I put tall items that are oversized tall. So many decisions on deciding on what you're looking for in a fridge. I made sure I was in stores checking out all other brand and sizes before deciding on this unit. Expert delivery men and were very careful coming up narrow stairs to not scratch item. Couldn't have asked for more. ON TIME too! Telephone call within a half hour of delivery in the 4 hour window. Truly a happy customer! Not sure of energy savings yet since I've only had 3 weeks, but it's a quiet unit and gets cold fast. HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Important-unplug the ice maker if water is not connected. This is an update to my review "Avoid like the plague": I take back my 'thumbs down" rating and now recommend buying this refrigerator. What changed? Well, I solved the knocking noise problem shortly after I wrote the original review. I found that the annoying loud knocking was caused by the ice maker compressor coming on and trying to make ice. The problem was that I did not have the water connected to the refrigerator because the automatic ice making wasn't important to me. I wanted to use the fridge without turning on this feature. What I did not know was that I had to turn off the ice maker. So for the few people that will buy this refrigerator and won't connect water to it -they need to know that there's something they have to do-or they'll hear annoying knocking of the ice maker running dry. My solution was to reach behind the ice maker inside the freezer and unplug the connector supplying power to the ice maker. You could also put the wire shut off arm of the ice maker in the off position by turning it up, but items stored in the freezer may eventually press down on it and activate the ice maker again. Truth be told, there was a message inside the freezer on the ice maker to turn the ice maker off if the water supply is not connected immediately, but I didn't pay attention to it. In retrospect the problem seems obvious and I feel a little silly about it now, but it wasn't that obvious for two weeks of loud knocks. Also, it would have helped if the delivery team unplugged the ice maker right away seeing that there's no water connection. Or they could have alerted my wife to the importance of keeping the ice maker in the off position. Well, they didn't and I didn't know what I didn't know, so I suffered needlessly for two weeks. At any rate, you can't imagine how relieved I am to have this problem solved. Finally I can enjoy my new refrigerator the way it was meant to run. It' so quiet now.
