THIS is the refriderator I thought I wanted, as I had researched this same fridge 2 years ago. Unfortunately I was not aware that Whirlpool had done some downgrading on things like the door, and interior shelving, I'm assuming to keep the cost down, so that you could still own this fridge for the same 1,199.00. The model a few years ago matched the interior of the Maytag version, which now sells for 1,399.00. ( the Maytag model also comes with a limited 10 year warranty).
I blame myself for thinking I could simply make a large appliance purchase online, even though I had throughly researched the model fridge I wanted, and followed it over the last two years. I should have gone into the store, to physically LOOK, and SEE what types of changes had been made to this model.
The Pros about this Whirlpool model are; It is a good size, it DOES run silently, it IS a tier III energy rated appliance, it comes with an ice maker, humidtity controls on the produce drawers, It is highly rated by the Consumer guide, and I was able to purchase a five year protection plan.
The cons for me, are; The front doors do not match the sides of the fridge, which overall gives this fridge a very cheap look, and the down grading of the interior shelves, which do not includ an egg/ butter compartment, or the nice large meat/ cheese drawer. ( If you look at the interior of the Maytag comparrison, this is what the interior of this Whirlpool used to look like). Personally I would prefer to spend the difference of 200.00, to have the interior I thought I was still getting, and the limited 10 year warranty, which tells me, I could expect the Maytag model to provide more years of reliable service.
My refrigerator was only delivered yesterday. It is my plan to find out what the stores return policy is, I am now hoping that Home Depot will allow me to exchange refrigerators for the upgrade to the Maytag model.
All in All comparitivly speaking, This Whirpool is a fine downgraded model of it's former self. If I hadn't already been aware of how this fridge used to come, I might not have been so disappointed. For the money, if you don't mind some of the cosmetic changes to the exterior, and some midly inconvienant changes to the interior, this isn't a bad deal. Though based on some of the reviews I've followed over the course of time, I would definately advise purchasing the extended warranty or protection plan.

We replaced a 20 year old Maytag and chose the same "Made in America" brand per our earlier experience. Having a 20+ year old house, our refrigerator space was limited so we chose the 18.7 CU ft. model. We love the bottom freezer and the lighting for both the top and the bottom is exceptional.

We love having the freezer on the bottom & the pullout freezer shelf is nicely designed. We like the refrigerator's layout & the interior lighting really lets you see everything in there. Our choices were limited due to the small space we had for a refrigerator, but we didn't have to sacrifice anything with this one. It is the perfect size for our small family. We used spray car wax on the stainless surface as the user's manual suggests & it doesn't show fingerprints & looks beautiful.
Home Depot's delivery & installation is amazingly efficient & we had it installed on the day we chose.

So, you're thinking about buying a new refrigerator. Do it!!! I hemmed and hawed thinking my 14-yr-old GE was just getting old. It ran almost all of the time and really wasn't keeping food as cold or frozen as it should. I bought this new Maytag and couldn't be more pleased. I hardly ever notice that it's running! The best feature is the meat and cheese drawer under the fruit and veggie crispers. Sometimes with bottom freezers, the fruits and veggies freeze when the drawers are placed at the bottom of the cooler, right above the freezer. Moving those drawers up was a fantastic design idea. Worst feature is the controls right in the middle up front. I keep one of my top shelves just high/low enough for a standard gallon pitcher to slide in. I have to kind of navigate around the front controls. I'm already used to it, but still it's not perfection. I think it's the best for 18.7 cf size.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clevelanduser Nice refrigerator
Only had it about a week, so a little early to comment on energy efficiency or overall value, but it seems put together well and it looks and feels like a quality product. I'm happy with this product, and love the bottom freezer. It's so much easier to see what's in the refrigerator with everything on top now.
With the large slide-out freezer basket and tray, larger items like frozen pizzas can be a little challenging to get in. They have to go on the tray and slightly overlap the ice maker. If you like to stock a half-dozen frozen pizzas, this might be a problem for you, unless you don't use the ice maker. This is not an issue for me.
Also, beware that the site says (or did when I purchased) that delivery guys will hook up your water line for free. That is only true IF you already have a water line in place. They will not tap the pipe to run a line for you. That was not clear on the site, so don't expect them to do that for you.
(If you need to do it, HD sells a brass adaptor fitting they keep near the braided sink hoses. You just screw that into the end of the stop valve, hook your sink hose to that and attach the refrigerator water line to the secondary feed. Took me about 20 minutes to do it.)

Bought this refrigerator new in 2013 and 15 months later it needed $520 in repairs to replace the main switch, drain tube and bi-metal. It claims to be assembled in the US but must be made of parts made in China. The Maytag name is not what it used to be.

Had trouble from day one. Freezer keeps defrosting and water pools in the bottom. Replaced computer brain but didn't fix the issue. Next repair didn't fix it either. Bought extended warranty which is worthless when they don't fix the problem.
