Customer Questions & Answers

The top is 36ins. length what is the width/depth? I have a 24in. space.

My present cook top is 36in.x24in. and between two granite counter pieces.
Asked by: Anonymous
width is 21 inches and requires at least 3-1/4 inches in depth. My counter top is also 24 inches.

Is the panel containing the control knobs recessed into the surface or raised on top of it?

Maytag Coil Electric Range Top, Model # MEC4536WB
Asked by: Anonymous
They are raised but not so as to interfere with cooking etc. They are very safe as they must be depressed before they can be turned on i.e." Push down then turn".

What sizes are the 5 burners on this cooktop?

Description says "5 burners deliver 100-2350 watts". Does this mean Per Burner? Does not sound like enough power. Am comparing to the GE JP626BKBB which has 5600 - 7400 watts.
Asked by: Anonymous
these work grate, all the burners put off more heat then you well probably need we are turning them down, to about half way with most of what we do. I believe the center burner is the lowest watt burner, but even it gives out more then what is needed, then the other 2 small one are next watt up and larger burners are the highest. I am very satisfied with this. I well never go back to the other kind with only 4 burners, there are 3 , 6" burners and 2 8" burners.

What are the demensions

Asked by: Anonymous
The dimensions of the cook top are 36"x21"------ The dimensions of the required cut out for the cook top is19-13/16 x 34-7/8. Do not make the cut out oversized or the cooktop will slide around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Working great! We like this stove top very much. For the price we paid it is a great one! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value and Performance INSTALLATION: Installation was easy in our preexisting opening in the counter. (This replaced an ancient 36" cooktop.) PRICE: I really wanted to get a cooktop with downdraft, but those are thrice the price of this one, and come only with a glass top (“smooth surface”), and are way out of the budget at this time. (The glass ones without the downdraft are over twice the price of this one.) This was the perfect solution for our cooking needs and budget. (I got lucky and was shopping at the right time to catch a sale price to boot.) In the end, I am really happy I opted for the coils, which I further explain below. FEATURES: I love the fact that this cooktop has 5 burners. The extra burner will come in really handy when we have a party or Thanksgiving dinner. This Maytag heats up really fast, and it boils around 8 cups of water with 4 cups of rice in a large stock pot in less than 5 minutes, and when reducing the heat to simmer after a boil, it quickly decreases to the right temperature. I have had glass cooktops on my electric ranges before, and I have never been impressed with their performance. They take forever to heat up and then forever to cool down once you get the water boiling, such as for rice (bring water to a boil, then simmer), probably since the glass takes a while to heat up and then retains the heat. CLEANING: One other aspect that I love about the coil cooktops as compared to glass cooktops is that the coil cooktops are easier to clean. The glass cooktop is really hard to clean when food boils over and gets burned on. It takes a lot of elbow grease and special cleaners to get it off the surface. With the “old fashioned” coil burners and bowls, I just burn off the food from the coil by putting the temp on high, and throw the bowls into the dishwasher. Any residual burned on food comes right off the bowls with oven cleaner. And they are so much cheaper than the glass cooktops! FINISH: I have this cooktop with the black enamel finish. The only thing I do not like about it is that the finish is so shiny that streaks from cleaning and fingerprints, etc., are apparent. We have other black appliances, so I opted for the black, but wish I had opted for the brushed chrome that looks like a stainless finish. At least that would have matched our sink, but I can’t say if it would have a similar issue. All in all, this is an excellent cooktop and I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I bought this cooktop and I love it. It heats quickly and cools quickly as well. I also have five other electric (and brand new, name-brand) cooktops but this one is the best. The burners are flat, high quality, and I got it online and on sale, so it was easy and cheap!! Plus, it looks good in my kitchen -- looks just like Stainless steel, (which is what I had before -- an old Thermador). Thanks Home Depot!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great stove top for the price This is a great stove stove. It heats up fast and even. It looks nice. Great to have five burners, even though I seldom use them all. I bought this because we have been considering remodeling our kitchen and wanted to get something reasonably priced until we were ready to do the whole kitchen. I have been using for six months now and as we are moving forward on the remodel, I may just keep it. The only draw back is the black shows all water spots. I am continuously wiping it down. Being it is an electric, the burner pans are always dirty, but they can be replaced periodically at a reasonable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product I had a Sears unit for 29 years and had to replace it. Home Depot had the best deal of anyone and shippped to my home in less than a week. It only takes a few minutes to install it......unless you have to cut your countertop... I did have to trim my countertop a little but was easy. It only takes some with very basic skills to install the wiring into the junction box under the stove top. So far it works great. Home Depot charges a lot to provide the labor for this and dont recommend that. Make sure your hole is the right size for the unit. I had to make mine about 1/2" larger and no big deal. If you have to hire someone get an electrician with basic skills. Good luck!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stove top! This stove top is exactly what I was looking for. I had one of the flat top glass kind and didn't like it one bit. This stove top was "retro" looking and goes with my "retro" kitchen, it was pretty easy to install (I had to cut my counter top, but no biggie), and I have been enjoying cooking on it as well! It is easy to clean and water boils much faster on this than on my old cook top. LOVE IT!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Cooktop I really like having a 5th burner. I thought that it might be croweded and not enough space to actually use it, but this cooktop provides plenty of cooking space and it looks very nice in my kitchen. I would definitely recommend this to someone wanting an electric cooktop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The cooktop is just what my wife wanted. She loves the burners exposed rather than the ceramic top. It is easier to clean. The finish of brushed chromium and the exposed burners makes the cooktop much easier to clean, and stay clean. The controls are immediately in front of you and the package fit in the old template easily.
