I have never had it run for less than an hour. whether I put in 3 items or more, it ALWAYS takes at least an hour and a lot of times the clothes are no cleaner than when I put them in. I will never recommend this washer to anyone. My clothes have actually come out with dry spots on them, they didn't even get wet!!!

It depends on the wash cycle and the rinse cycle you select! I will tell you the wash cycles are longer than a traditional agitator machine, but the difference in times from those machines is worth it because your clothes will be a lot cleaner and you'll save water...

I don't know about a specific "grinding" noise, but I do remember this washer was very noisy. It destroyed my clothing, it was not efficient, it does not agitate well enough to submerge clothing in water, resulting in dry, unwashed clothes at the end of a cycle. I returned mine.

However, there is one cycle called "Deep Water Wash" that will fill all the way up regardless of the amount of clothing you put in the washer if you feel it is necessary for a particular load of clothes. As for the water temperature selection, you are able to adjust for some cycles. For more information I have listed the Water Temp information below from the Use and Care Guide. Thank you for viewing this Maytag home appliance.
WASH TEMP
Wash Temp senses and maintains uniform water temperatures
by regulating incoming hot and cold water.
Select a wash temperature based on the type of fabric and soils
being washed. For best results and following the garment label
instructions, use the warmest wash water safe for your fabric.
• On some models and cycles, warm and hot water may be
cooler than your previous washer.
• Even in a cold and cool water wash, some warm water may
be added to the washer to maintain a minimum temperature.

Also, this model does have a cleaning cycle. The cleaning cycle is designed to be used strictly for cleaning out the machine. You can buy the "refresh" tabs at the store, or just use plain bleach. My understanding about this added feature, is to combat any bacterial build up that may occur, due to the lessor amounts of detergent and water used when washing clothes. Which brings in to question the whole idea of using less amounts of soap and water. If using less was really cleaning our clothes, then why would there be an issue with bacterial buildup. That has never been an issue in the traditional washing machines of the past -- never!

Yes, this machine has a "Clean Cycle". This is meant for cleaning and deodorizing the empty machine. Manufacturer recommends once a month. You just add one tablet (can be purchased at any supermarket) OR you can just add 1 cup of liquid bleach in the bleach dispenser, close lid and hit "Clean Cycle." .
The Operating Manual that comes with it explains in more detail. I believe the manual is also available on the website.
I have been using this machine for almost a year and am extremely pleased with it. It takes some getting used to . . . need to pay attention to sorting, load size, and which cycle you need to use. Read Less

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by STAY AWAY!!! Machine made terrible clunking noises; struggled to operate; didn't cover the clothes with water; and Maytag didn't want to take any accountability for a faulty machine. "They" told the Home Depot that the machine was "supposed to sound like that". Totally unacceptable. I returned both washer and dryer and upgraded to a wonderful set from LG. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice washing machine This Maytag washing machine has all the features that we wanted and works well. It is a little noisier than the high efficiency washer that it replaced; but we are hoping that it will last longer. The control board on our previous HE washing machine (not Maytag) failed after only 5 years. August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dependable Maytag Washes very well. Uses minimum water for efficient washing. Down rated this washer because it is very, very noisy. August 11, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Washer creates little holes in clothes I bought this product exactly a year ago. A few months back, I started noticing holes in my clothes but didn't trace it to the washer until I bought some new summer clothes and saw holes after only 1 wash and line drying my clothes. Turns out other people have had similar complaints. Customer service representatives were aware of the problem and suggested washing in hand wash mode, washing only a few items at a time, or separating items by materials (instead of colors). Imagine having to wash t-shirts in hand wash mode and doing twice as much laundry throughout the day with only a few articles of clothing per wash. The washer is also very loud and shakes alot. It spins like crazy. October 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 2 weeks in, so-far-so-good Needed a washer right away to replace a five year old Samsung front loader. The Samsung had developed several problems, bad bearings making the spin cycle deafeningly loud and shaking half the house. It then developed a leak. So purchased the Maytag, didn't want a front loader or a Korean product. Made the purchase, then read all the bad reviews. Difficulty balancing the machine, super loud, etc. I had major concerns. But, after several weeks of use I've had no problems with figuring out how to load the machine, and it is much quieter than the samsung ever was. No problems getting the clothes clean. So, two weeks in, i'd recommend it. October 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great HE Top-Loader! We came off of a 15+ year old Kenmore that barely got the clothes washed, so this is definitely a step up. We purchased this on 6/23/2016 and it was delivered on 6/25/2016. Our delivery guys were fantastic and it was just about a 20 minute process, from hauling the old washer onto the truck to installing the new washer. It's a basic washer with some nice features. We've done a few loads of laundry already and I am extremely impressed with the Spin Cycle - the clothes are barely damp, which means less time in the dryer. I also like the sensor feature - it determines how much water should be used so you no longer have to decide how large your load is. And then my favorite is the glass top door - there's something so therapeutic about being able to see your clothes being washed combined with the "whirl-whirl-swish-swish" sounds that accompany the load. Great buy, will definitely stick with Maytag! June 25, 2016
