No if we could our clothes might get cleaned, the machine determines the water amount by the weight of the clothing. Not enough water to clean them period!

No, the washer automatically detects how much water to use based on the weight of the clothes in the washer (and maybe some other sensors) but there are no buttons for water volume.

The only way is to select different modes - Normal (almost no water), Sheets (about 1/4 tub), and Bulky (about 1/2 tub). No manual way to bypass this as with old style agitator top loading washers.

No. You have no control. If they had this feature, it would be a great machine. The designers at Maytag thought saving water is the priority.

This Maytag Bravos XL takes the guesswork out and sets the best water level needed for the amount of clothing placed into the basket. There is not a way to manually set the water level on this washer. You would not want a lot of water with little clothing as the wash action would not provide the best results. You want just enough water to cover the clothing so that you can get optimal results. I would suggest reading the Use and Care Guide on the product page if you aren't familiar with this type of wash system. It provides great results and offers tremendous performance, but it does things in am improved way when comparing to a traditional style washer with the agitator. The cycles are all preset. Once you start the cycle, the lid will lock, and the washer will begin
the sensing process to determine the correct water level for the load. There is no manual override to allow selection of water level. I am very satisfied with the final wash results.

cp203,
There is not a soak option on this washer. There is a rinse, drain, and spin option. The soak function due to how these washers wash and operate is not as common of a washy cycle as it once was. The way the cycles are designed, the stain will tend to come out in the first wash not needing a soak. Thank you for viewing this Maytag home appliance.

Bravos XL 4.5 cu. ft. High-Efficiency Top Load Washer in White, ENERGY STAR is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2831.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from ETC Board Get the extended warranty and keep it up. My washer is 4 1/2 years old and I love it. Then it gave an error code of F-51. The washer works but cannot handle heavier loads or it gets thrown out of balance. The A&E repairman told me to get a new washer without the "computer" in it, it would be cheaper. Total estimate is $504 to repair and he said I could get a better washer for that amount. I called Maytag and there is nothing they can do because it's out of warranty. I still use the washer but until it's repaired or replaced I have to keep the loads small. Since the washers life expectancy is only 4-5 years I can't give it a really good rating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Loading for the win! This is the best washer I have ever owned. It's super user friendly and works to get my clothes clean in an energy efficient manner. The top loading aspect has been a nice change for me as it is easy to get clothes in and out and is much less stinky than the front loading washers I have owned. This washer also has a light that indicates when a clean cycle needs to be run. You simply purchase small tablets and place one of which in the washer 1x/month and choose the right option to run the cycle. Voila! Smells great and continues to clean perfectly. Rated 1 out of 5 by from MAYTAG LOST! I have replace an 18yr old Maytag with this and am beyond disappointed. I followed directions and have clothes coming out dry, soapy and still not clean. If slacks or jeans are washed they come out literally in knots. I called service and was told to put my clothes around center in little piles, really?!?! I now do very small loads only on the bulky setting to assure they are all at least wet. The tub never fills above 1/2 full no matter how many clothes are put in. Forget about doing blankets or quilts in this machine they will NOT get clean. It goes off balance constantly and then refills, spins, refills, spins, how is this HE?????

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible My wife and I bought this machine 2 years ago. This machine is so noisy. My wife has called whirlpool/ may tag and they have been out to my house 4 times to fix this machine. As recently as last Monday to replace the same part that keeps coming loose. I'm doing a load now and it's making 3 different noises.I will be calling whirlpool again and demanding they replace this machine. This product should not be failing like this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Washer I purchased a Magtag because my last washer was a Maytag and was an excellent washer for over 15 years. I wanted a more energy and water efficient washer, and chose the Maytag Bravos. It has been a great washer and cleans clothes very well with lots of options. It also can hold a lot of clothes. Perfect for a family full of active kids. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst washer i ever owned Washer is only 4 yrs old. It is slinging water under washer all over my floor on spin cycle. I live 50 yds from a railroad track & washer is louder than the train. My last Maytag washer was 20 yrs old so i bought another Maytag. Worst thing i ever did & Maytag has a deaf ear if you call them. Needless to say...i just bought a new washer but it is not a Maytag!!!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy I have only had this for a year and a half, and it's no longer working correctly. It has multiple error codes, takes forever to wash, and then stops. the repair guy said it's not even worth fixing since it costs so much, and they have a lot of problems. It also destroyed a fe hundred dollars in brand new towels......
Date published: 2016-11-10
Rated 4 out of 5 by from maytag washer I love the washer and all the features. One thing I don't like so much is with dark clothes if I don't add an extra rinse cycle, then the detergent leaves some lines on the pants. It is an HE washer with low water and that is part of the problem. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
