The last time our washer broke down our repair tech mentioned this washer and said maybe the next time it will be time to replace. So when old washer did it again I called repair service to see if they were still recommending the Maytag. They confirmed and emphasized the criteria of getting a 4.5 cf or larger since those washer used a more commercial like drive system and I would have less trouble. Well it is too soon to tell on that part of the washer's performance but I can say we have been very pleased with the cleaning ability, capacity, ease of use and trouble free operation. So now maybe my repair tech will be the loneliest guy in town.

I hate this machine, its too rough on the clothes, tearing my towels to shreds. I wish I could exchange it for a front loader which would tumble the clothes instead of forcefully agitating them. Not enough water, and items come out more wrinkled than normal machine.

I BOUGHT THIS HIGH EFFICIENCY WASHER TO REPLACE A 25 YR,OLD NOISY CLUNKER. HOWEVER NOT SO CONVINCED WASHING W/LESS WATER, NO CENTER AGITATOR, & W/COMPUTERS SETTING ALL THE CYCLES IS SO GREAT. ALREADY HAD IT 'STOP' FOR NO REASON WITH 24 MIN.TO GO IN CYCLE, CLOTHES GET ALL TWISTED & TANGLED, & IT SEEMS TO GO 'OUT OF BALANCE EASILY. MORE ENGINEERING WORK NEEDS TO BE DONE ON THIS TYPE OF WASHER IN MY OPINION. CLOTHES SEEM TO BE CLEAN BUT ONE REALLY HAS TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS & BE AROUND UNTIL CYCLE IS FINISHED! ALSO I DO NOT FEEL IT WILL BE AS TROUBLE-FREE AS MY OLD GE.

I bought this a month ago and I love it! Everything comes out clean and well rinsed. The washer tub holds a lot of laundry since there is no agitator taking up space. The wash cycles are not too long and it's simple to use. The only thing I have found that is odd is even when I set the water wash temperature to cold, the laundry comes out warm so it must rinse in warm water.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by nchevy Love my new washer...
This is the quietest washing machine I've ever used. My laundry area is right next to my living room, so quiet is a must. My last washer was a front loader, and this new Maytag top loader is much, much easier to load and unload, and the capacity is very large. There are also numerous settings covering all sorts of load types. Absolutely love it.

THE RANGE OF TONES FOR END OF WASH IS DONE IS INADEQUATE, DECIBELS TOO LOW AND ONLY ONE BEEP. ALSO THE LABELING ON PANEL FOR ALL SETTINGS, THE FONT IS NOT LEGIBLE, TOO LIGHT. BASEMENT LOCATION IN RANCH HOUSE DOES NOT SUIT CLEAR VISION AND ACOUSTICS.OTHERWISE IT IS A GREAT WASHER, WIFE LOVES IT.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by cleanerup66 I wanted a Direct Drive Model, and this is it!
This washer has more capacity than I need, but the slightly smaller version did not arrive on time to meet my order requirements. Overall, the machine has operated very well, and I am happy with the results. I do find it to be quite a bit noisier than a different top load direct drive brand that I own in another location, and I was disappointed to find that there was no "soak" function that I could easily identify. This is a tall model, so very short people might have difficulty reaching the bottom of the tub. I am 5'7" tall, and have no problem at all. My wash gets clean, and the controls are pretty simple. I prefer top load to front load. It's a good choice!

Bought this about a month ago. Was a little concerned after reading so many poor reviews, but this unit works fine. As others have said...you need to follow the instructions. It's quiet and gets clothes clean. Spins drier than many. Biggest complaint is that I think a short person would have some difficulty reaching the bottom of the tub.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by gingerspet Loving it!
I wanted the front loader but our laundry area wasn't deep enough to accommodate one, so I purchased the top loader. I wanted to be able to wash my comforter without having to go to the laundromat. The salesperson told me people either going to love the top loader. . . or hate it. Turns out, I love it!!! A negative is that I'm 5'1" tall so I have to reach deep inside the machine to retrieve the laundry. It's deep. My husband feels compelled to hold on to my feet so that he can pull me out if I fall in. . . LOL. Truthfully, I've not washed my comforter yet. It'll probably be fine. The washing machine does a fantastic job!!

I purchased this a year ago. It is an excellent washer. I wasn't sure I would like the "HE" washing machine. The only drawback, is you cannot presoak items, or dye fabric.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Shauna08 This is the way we wash our clothes! The only way! the best
I love this washer! It is SO QUIET! The first time I used it my husband though the people in the other side of the duplex were vacuuming! THAT quiet! It washes a lot of clothes using a small amount of water and the clothes get washed right! they are clean! As a short person (5 ft even) it is easy to reach the bottom but still has lots of room. auto shut off is a nice feature and the different settings are all convenient and nice to have. Some people have trouble with sheets acting like mushrooms, if you read the instructions and load it properly it wont do that. It hasn't done it to me once and I wash our sheets once a week.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wheelchair Rox Skeptical but SOLD
I am in a wheelchair so I do not want something difficult to use. Replaced my 15 year old Kenmore with this one.. I was use to an agitator but after reading reviews went with the HE....had never heard of this type of machine. Many reviews did not like it cause they felt like it did not use a lot of water. It does seem not to use much water and I do not know how or why but my clothes are MUCH cleaner. It was also important to have a powerful extraction spin. I was skeptical at first because of the water levels but I absolutely LOVE this washer and the extraction spin makes my dryer work less so I save on electricity! You "can teach an old dog" new tricks!! It is eary to operate, is quiet and looks great! The tub is very deep but even from my wheelchair I can reach the clothes on the bottom.

After waiting many years and hearing about Maytag I bought the washing machine on July 17 and about 5 weeks later it started leaking water from below. I had to wait 2 - 3 weeks for service and now am waiting for a part. They said that something came unbalanced. If I could I would return it....

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Tbaugh Love the large capacity!
I have had this washer for a couple of months now! I was a little unsure about purchasing a top load vs a front load. I decided to go with the top load because of the problems with a front load and the bad smell with mildew. I am very happy with the top load so far, seems to get the cloths clean and I am able to wash very large loads, amazing! Only downsides are that the drum is so large and high off the ground a short person would need a step stool to be able to get the cloths out and into the dryer, the control panel is also hard to read so I have to keep my glasses by the machine so I can actually read the settings.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Javanut Why I bought this Washing Machine
I bought this washer so I could wash king size comforters and sleeping bags because of the machine having the largest capacity that I have found. So far very nice machine and very happy I purchased it. The only thing I found was that it leaves the clothes wrinkled in all cycles except delicate.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Hawksfan Disappointing washer
My husband and I purchased this washer in November of 2013, so we have had it for 7 months. I recently washed a pair of khaki shorts that I was wearing to work in the yard. When the cycyle ended, they were almost as dirty as when I put them in. Also, I've noticed that my white wash cloths are dingy. It doesn't seem to matter how much bleach I put into the machine and wash on hot water, they don't seem to be clean. Since the machine uses such a small amount of water, I started using the "bulky" setting, which uses more water. Last week, the machine had a balance issue on that setting and it did it again yesterday. The machine is supposed to self-balance, but I still arrange my clothes evenly in the machine when loading it. I am not very happy with this machine and if I had a choice, I would go back to an agitator style washing machine. Don't let the looks fool you. Opt for something that will actually wash your clothes.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by BamaG I'd never buy one again...
My husband surprised me with this washer one day without my older model even going out. I thought it was a great gift but for the money I'd rather of had a gold ring!! I love to smell clean clothes and this one made them stink like burnt tar and they had to be rewash for the first week. The second week my clothes started getting brown dark spots on them, from who knows where!
I don't like that the water sprays in on the clothes as the soap and bleach gets mixed with it while it sprays...this leaves bleach spots on the next load at times. I like to add a little more bleach to my extremely filthy clothes and this one only allows a certain amount in the little holder....which gets clogged at times so some of my loads have to be rewashed when I notice the little cup didn't release the bleach.
The shortest time on a load isn't under 30 mins and if you want to get a larger load done with complete water released out of the load, it takes an hour for the load...which my nipsco bill has went up $30 a month since we bought it and my water bill has increased $20.
When I wash my comforters, some spots on them smell like water never hit it so Im feeling like some of it got clean and some didnt.
Overall ...give me back the old models that had better cleaning power. These new technology washers with this so called energy efficiency is such a sales pitch and oh didnt mention you also have to buy a package of cleaning tablets for 7.99 that gives you 4 tablets to use for an hour long. It all just stinks!!!
Definitely not at all efficient!!!!!

Where to begin... no option or way to soak clothes, all settings not available on all cycles, water doesn't cover clothes, not even by an inch, therefore they don't move enough to get really clean, whenever I wash an article by hand there is no way to have it spin for a minute or two, it has to go through the entire spin cycle which takes too long and when you consider the machine does not fill with water, it takes forever to get going.

I want to warn short women (I am 5' 3')that it is very difficult to remove small items from the bottom of the washer. Hard on the ribs!!! Haven't used it enough to know about the wear on clothes from the harsh agitation. I am a little concerned about that.

For most of my adult life, I have bounced between laundromats, frugal washing machines and onerous repair bills. The Maytag BRAVO XL He washing machine is, quite literally, the culmination of a lifetime's worth of dirty laundry and an ongoing ordeal with cleaning machines wholly inadequate to the task. This machine has every feature and setting that any degree of laundry needs and it is a genuine pleasure to use. The added bonus of the steadfast solid sterling reputation associated with the MAYTAG brand name is an added bonus that moves this beyond the run of the mill appliance purchase to the level of, quite literally, the last washing machine I will EVER want or need.

I've had the Bravos for about a month now, and am very pleased with the price and performance. I had a front load washer before and didn't like the way it was constantly getting mildewed. The Bravos also has a much larger capacity in the same footprint so fewer loads to wash means less time spent washing on the weekends. It's very easy to use - intuitive, and does a good job cleaning. One item I have to work out is the spin dry speed - it seems to twist up my clothes and wrinkle them, but I believe I can adjust this over time to minimize wrinkles and still get most of the water out.

I have had this washer for 1-1/2 years and it will cost me $350.00 to repair it, the bearing went on it. I didn't feel that this washer cleaned the clothes like it said. It was always going off balance and it just isn't a good washer

There is so much room in the washer & we feel the wash is much better. Really like not having an "agitator" in the middle. My wife is short & gets teased about getting on her toes to get the cloths out. She says that is ok. Our friends really like it.
