Bought this fridge when we moved into our house in May '10. It's been nothing but problems since then. Right after it turned a year old, the fridge was always warm and things were spoiling. Of course since our 1 year warranty was up, we called a repairman who said all Maytags seem to have an issue w/ their control board, causing this problem....so he replaced that. His less than 5 min. visit cost us almost $300. Four months later, the bottom freezer started leaking water. Apparently the hose that drains the water from the auotmatic defroster is clogged. This hose is UNREACHABLE compared to other fridges. We attempted to fix it, and it then melted everything in the freezer. Now 8 hours later, I get home from work and everything's frozen solid in there. We had to get this fridge b/c of size limitations in our kitchen. We've since decided to toss this moneypit and deal w/ a larger fridge in our small kitchen. HORRIBLE!!! The only nice thing was how much the fridge could hold, especially on the door.

I have been wanting to replace my refrigerator for a long time. The one I had worked fine but was old. I really wanted a bottom freezer refrigerator and had purchased a Maytag range and dishwasher in the last couple of years so I wanted to be sure that the fridge would match the style of the other two appliances. Electric rates are going up in 2011 so also having an energy star was important. It was delivered 3 days after I placed the order and I love it. It looks sleek and I like having all the compartments and clear bins and the freezer being on the bottom. I only have had for a week but certainly have no complaints and would recommend it.

The space is incredibly useful, if however you're short (under 5'0" you may have an issue reaching the upper shelf.
The unit makes very little noise, I know others complained about excessive noise and to tell the truth, I almost didn't buy the unit because of this complaint. I'm am glad I didn't listen to the few who complained. My kitchen floor is pitched a little but after adjusting the front it closes by itself. Mine opens to to the right which is what I needed. If it needs to be switched, there are little buttons hiding the screws holes on the opposite side....save these and use them over.
The freezer drawer works well, but because you are pulling straight out it will seem tight and as you reach the half way point the drag is lessened, this is the way the drawer glides are designed. The glides are sturdy and the freezer will hold a great deal of weight, without interfering with the glide movement.

Our 2 year old Maytag was leaking water all over our floor.
The problem was a defective grommet. It cost us $299 to repair.
Here's where I got angry: I looked on the web, and saw this has been a problem
FOR YEARS. Yet Maytag continued to sell their high-end refrigerators with this
cheap, defective grommet.
Now, one year after shelling out for the repair, this refrigerator is LEAKING AGAIN.
Apparently, the defective grommet was replaced by another defective
grommet. I guess we will be spending $300 a year to maintain this refrigerator.
One other suggestion. AVOID USE DAN MARC for repairs. Maytag recommended them, and
we were dissatisfied. Specifically, the refrigerator door no longer shut automatically
after they did the "repair." The repairman returned to fix it, but so hostile that I
told him to leave. At that point, I looked on Angie's List, and saw there were lot of complaints
about their service.

Absolute worst purchase in my life, and I'm no spring chicken! I bought this refrigerator about 3 years ago, expecting good things from Maytag. But periodically, and without any warning, the back wall of the freezer ices up and the refrigerator section no longer cools properly, causing the contents to spoil quickly. The motor will run constantly trying to lower the temperature but at that point, I'd be better off storing perishable food in styrofoam coolers. At least they will not leak water onto the floor, run up the electricity bill or require any service calls.
Too late I checked online and found that this icing up problem is very common with this and similar Maytag/Whirlpool models. There are even videos on how to repair it yourself, which may come in handy because the manufacturer apparently doesn't stand behind their product. They have to be well aware of this mechanical defect, yet from what I've read online, they continue to manufacture an expensive piece of junk (with its pitiful warranty). Maytag and Whirlpool are not new to the scene; they have been in the major appliance business for decades, so we have certain expectations from them. But after my experience, and what I've read from other unhappy customers, they need to address this problem or they deserve to go out of business. It's a real pity because the bottom drawer design is a good one.
