Customer Questions & Answers

what does the finish product look like?

Is there any residue left on the clothes after they have finished washing and do they come out twisted or wrinkled? Also does this washer collect lint in the water dispenser or anywhere else?
Asked by: Anonymous
This front loader has done an excellent job. I am very picky about laundry. I've had at least 3 front loaders over the years. The last one was a Kenmore Elite (hard to get parts for) but loved the way it cleaned - also didn't last as long. This washer cleans exceptionally well. The steam feature helps with cleaning and getting clothes clean. I had a King size April Cornell quilt that it did an amazing job on. So far the sheets and quilts don't twist like my last front loader - We took out a walk-in closet in our master and put a Travertine stone floor in with a drain in it - then stacked the units with closets on either side. Here's a photo

Is the only difference between mhw8000aw and mhw8000ag the color? My question concerns the matching washer and dryer.

Asked by: April
There is no difference in color other than graphite and white. All models are either one or the other in color

How do I pry the lint screen loose?

I have a maytag maxima front load dryer. I've been removing and returning the lint screen with ease. When I inadvertently put it in backwards, it obviously just stops going in and that's my cue to flip it around. Never been a problem (I've had the machine for 1 year and a bit now). Yesterday however, I put it in backwards, it stopped on the way down, again, my cue to flip it around, but this time it won't come out. I didn't try to force it in or anything, so I have no idea what happened. Can anyone help?
Asked by: LEMO
If you feel that you can't pull the lint trap out without damaging the dryer, then I would suggest calling The Home Depot/ Whirlpool Corporation Hotline. There number is 877.461.3376, Option 2, Option 1, you will be connected to a service care representative that will be able to troubleshoot with you. Thank you for being a Maytag customer.

Customer Reviews

Maxima XL 4.3 cu. ft. High-Efficiency Front Load Washer with Steam in White, ENERGY STAR-DISCONTINUED is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great washer, not very reliable We replace a 10+ year old Neptune washer. This one has longer cycle times but it washes clothes much better. Over all, we love this. We've had it for 18 months and it stopped working. Fortunately I had bought the $99 4 year Home Depot Extended warranty which I recommend. The "motor control board" (computer that controls the physical drum motor) died. The service tech replaced it under the extended warranty. I've heard similar stories. It's ridiculous that a washer's computer should just magically die after 18 months. Also this has a debris basket that is supposed to catch large object before they jam the drain pump. In order to get to that clean-out, you have to disassemble the entire front of the washer. I don't understand this design. Why should you have to take apart the washer to get to the basket when it's clearly designed in a way that it should be routine to clean out. I'm kind of upset about these things but it's still a great washer. Just be prepared to deal with maintenance. Get the extended protection plan and be prepared to use it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great washer but not quiet I have had this washer now for a month, it replaced a top loading Maytag. It washes the clothes well and does get out stains with the steam feature. I also like that I don't have to add detergent every time as the machine portions it out for each wash. The machine is much louder than I expected. The signal beeps are very loud (which you can turn off completely). The machine itself is louder than my top loader was. My only other complaint is that the door is hinged on the left side and can't be changed (which is inconvenient because my dryer is on the left side of the washer so the door is in the way to take clothes out and put into the dryer). I would still recommend this machine for its efficiency and performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cleans clothes great Maytag has proved reliable and this Maxima front loader DEFINITELY cleans my clothes much better than my old AND on "Normal" setting which takes under 1 hour to wash. Clothes are clean - soap is rinsed out better and the spin cycle takes most of water out so they dry very quickly. It also has sanitize sitting which takes longer but when needed it is great. I had Maytag Bravo top load without agitator and water saver before - it did not clean clothes well and they came out twisted up in knots. BUT the mechanics were working great when I sold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what we wanted We got this in June and it is everything we wanted. We were concerned that it might be too heavy and vibrate too much for our upstairs laundry in our 150 years old home, but is great and has much less vibration than an earlier model we had in a previous home. It copes well with our hard water and gets clothes wonderfully clean. The multi load dispenser is extremely convenient. We await the matching dryer which is on back order

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features, flexibility, and quality I love that this gets my clothes cleaner with less water, less energy, and less wear and tear on the clothes than my old machine. I love that it automatically senses how much water and detergent are needed, and has a feature to keep the clothes fresh until I can get them out of the wash.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Washes well, good features but... We bought this 2 months ago, Does a good job washing clothes, like the auto dispenser. Cons: buttons are so sensitive that just brushing up against it as I walk by causes bells and whistles to go off and I have to hit the power button to shut off machine. No short cycle. Quickest wash you can do is 57 minutes. My last washer did a quick load in 15 min. NOT happy about this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Had Several Issues GOOD: - The clothes come out very clean; even the dog and cat blankets which usually are full of hair. Very energy efficient. Many cycles to choose from. Elegant looking. OK: - Some of my clothes has little holes in it, even though I wash all clothes on delicate cycle exclusively, use little, earth friendly detergent that was recommended for this machine, and use a low spin cycle. I even wash more delicate fabrics in laundry bags. So not sure if this is the clothing issue or machine issue. - Even though I use delicate cycle with cold water, the clothes feels warm after a spin cycle. So it seems that the machine still uses a warm water. Since it's a from loader, I can't open the door once the water fills up to check its temperature. But even the glass door feels a bit warm on a delicate, cold water cycle. BAD: - $1400 for a washer is a lot of money in my opinion, but we spent it because this washer got excellent reviews on Consumer Report website. 22 months later, the drum in the machine is loose: at spinning cycle it bangs against the machine's walls and it's trajectory is oval rather than circular like in the past. Since the 1 year warranty is expired, Maytag wants $350 for someone co come out to fix it. That's ridiculous! BTW, we also had issues with the same model's dryer. A belt broke and had to be replaced, but thankfully that happened only 2 months after purchase and was still under a warranty. NOT impressive for this kind of money
